Grandpa here needs some advice please

We have been on the 'cheap' program of VZ ever since the early part of this decade.  The only reason we purchased our cell phone (replaced in 2005 due to the original one getting wet and died on us) plan was to have it available while on RV trips across the country.  Was worth it because we've had a number of flat tires, and needed to call AAA in remote areas.

Anyway, also under that plan, we got a laptop computer 3 years ago so that I could connect to the internet ... using the phone as a modem ... and check for messages; at the time we had our house listed for sale and needed to keep contact back home.

I used it many times as the modem ... going thru the software we had to purchase from VZ.  Last time was in 2007 as I recall.

Yesterday decided to test everything in preparation for upcoming trip ... and now nothing works .... connecting to the internet that is.  Seems the password process we have is outdated.

Sent an email to customer service, and have now been advised that the plan we were under is no longer active.  The response advised we consider changing our plan to a daily, 1.99 fee program ... which appeals to me because we hardly ever use it at home ... yet we have to pay the 30.00 each quarter.

AND ... right now, we have literally 100's of hours in reserve......

Does anyone know if we change to the suggested 1.99 plan ... if there are other fees?

In other words, is there a fee MERELY to keep the phone number in effect ... so that we don't lose those minutes.

At present we are on the 10.00 monthly plan.

Responder also said that once we switch over, that the aforeused sign-in process would work.  Am wondering????

Thanks

Grandpa

Are you using a prepaid daily plan?  If yes and you have all those hours not being used, I would go with the Basic ;plan which would be .25 (twenty five cents per minute) every time you make a call. This would help use up alot of those minutes. You are only allowed to carry over 1,000.00 worth of funds.  After that you can change your plan to a different acount, your allowed to change plans twice in a 30 day period and there is no charge for changing plans in that two month period.  In order to keep your phone active you must keep adding the  $30.00 every 90 days, or $15.00 for a 30 day,  you said you are on the $10.00 monthly plan is that for texting because i was not  aware of a $10.00 monthly plan for cell useage.  if you only use the cell for trips you can let the phone lapse but you would lose the money that you have on it and would lose the phone number. Then reactive the phone the next time you go on a trip.

Are you using a prepaid daily plan?

THAT IS WHAT WE HAVE DETERMINED IT TO BE RE-DEFINED BY VZ THESE DAYS ... WITH NO IMPUT OR APPROVAL FROM US.

DOES THIS MEAN THE MINUTES WE HAVE WILL BE LOST?

ANOTHER   PART OF THE PHONE COMPANY CHANGING OUR CONTRACT WITH THEM.  INITIALLY IT WAS 15.00 FOR 2 MONTHS; BUT WE RECEIVED NOTICE THAT THEY HAD ALTERED IT ... AGAIN WITHOUT OUR APPROVAL ... INTO A 3 MONTH PLAN AT 10.00 PER MONTH.  WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ON A QUARTERLY PAYMENT PLAN, AND STILL SO.

if you only use the cell for trips you can let the phone lapse but you would lose the money that you have on it and would lose the phone number. Then reactive the phone

AT WHAT COST ... IF YOU KNOW?

the next time you go on a trip.

SO AT THIS POINT, IF I AM READING AND INTERPRETING CORRECTLY, WE HAVE HAD OUR CONTRACT WITH VZ TOTALLY ALTERED TO OUR LOSS.  IF WE WANT TO USE OUR PRE EXISTING PHONE  PLAN AS BEFORE, WE'LL HAVE TO PAY MORE ... 1.99 PER DAY ... TO RUN OUT OUR  MINUTES.  AM I READING THIS CORRECTLY?

APPEARS TO ME WE'VE, IN A WORD, BEEN "SCREWED" BY VZ; AND THAT THE BEST THING TO DO AT THIS POINT, IS TO GIVE THE PHONE TO SOMEONE WHO CAN BURN OFF THOSE MINUTES ... AND THEN JUST LET IT LAPSE.

I am sorry if I am confusing you but I have never heard of a $10.00 plan so I don't think I am on the same page as you.  And I don't want to give you any bad information the best thing for you to do is call customer service the prepaid number is  1-888-294-6804 and hopefully they can help you.  I'm sorry I couldn't help you.
