I have the $35 a month prepaid plan. Every time I make a call I get a recording telling me the time I have left. How do I get rid of the message?

That is called an annoucement level, the settings are High, Low, and Medium. Since you have a plan which includes minutes unfortunately there is no option to completely remove it. You'll hear it from time to time on low, but not before every call.
