Need a straight answer from a Verizon rep

I have been on the phone 3 times today and have gotten different answers three times and was cut off two times.

I am on a fmaily plan right now.  My wife is virtually using 0 minutes a month.  The most she has ever used was 29 minutes.  i want to convert her to the BASIC Daily prepaid plan where the cost is $.25 a minute.    NO DAILY CHARGE just a charge of $.25 per minute.

I have been told that she can use her current phone.  It is just a basic LG phone.  What I want to know is can she keep her current phone number or do we have to get her a new phone number?

Second, what is she does not use the phone in a given month.  Is her phone deactivated?

I need some straight details about the BASIC DAILY PLAN

I use about 20 minutes per month, but am forced to pay for 700.  I do use the internet a good deal on the road.  I shouldn't be paying $131 per month for that.

Given your extremely low usage, it may make sense to put your husband on a prepaid plan, even if you include the cost of paying an ETF on his line.  In your case, the daily prepaid plans are not compatible with the $29.99/unlimited data feature or any phone that requires a data feature.  This means that swapping to prepaid may not make sense for your line.

If you are paying $130/month, it sounds like you have the 700 minute Talk & Text plan, which includes unlimited text messaging.  If you are not using the text messaging, you can drop that and move to the 700 Talk plan, which is $30 less per month.  If you only use a few messages, it might make more sense to put the 250 message/$5 or 500 message/$10 plan on each line.

If her contract is not up she will have to pay for the remaining part of the contract.

I have been told that she can use her current phone.  It is just a basic LG phone.  What I want to know is can she keep her current phone number or do we have to get her a new phone number? Yes she can keep her phone number on the prepaid cell. Yes she can have a Basic no daily charge plan of .25 cents per minute  only on the days she uses  the cell.

Second, what is she does not use the phone in a given month.  Is her phone deactivated?  No her phone will not be deactived as long as she keeps adding minutes to the phone.  There is a $15.00 dollar card that is good for 30 days, $30.00 card is good for 90 days, $75.00 for 180 days, $100.00  for One year. As long as she keeps the phone active (by adding money) the money amount will keep rolling over up the $1,000.00.  Basically for a $30.00 card it will cost you $10.00 a month. There are also text packages you can add if she is a text person.

The first thing I would do is check to see if your contract is up or how much it would cost to cancel that phone.  When you do want to switch to the prepaid call customer service and have the phone number ported over before you cancel the contract phone.

Thanks.  See, this is what I was talking about.  You are telling me that it is going to be so much money per month and that I have to purchase refill cards.  One Verizon rep I spoke with in retentions said I did not have to use refill cards.  I would only be billed for the actual minutes used so that if she talked for two minutes one month I will be billed for $.50 for that month.

What the rep told you is true.  If you only talk 2 minutes in a month, you will only be billed $0.25/minute for a total of 50 cents.  Your account also has an expiration date though, and you must purchase refill cards to extend the expiration date.  Minniehaha gave a list of how long each size of refill is good for.  The money that you purchase does not go away until either A) you use it on call/texts/data or B) you fail to renew your account in the given amount of time.

Well, I am very upset.  The Verizon people never told me about this type of plan.  My husband and I each have a phone.  He never uses his, but it's there if he goes on a trip or we need to keep in touch with each other.  The 25 cents per minute thing would be perfect.  A ten dollar card would last him for three years at the very least.
