Porting number

I left verizon for another carrier for a month...I'm pre-paid... (BIGGEST mistake EVER) I am coming back to Verizon tomorrow. My question is that Do I need access to a another telephone other than the number I am porting when I call to make my switch or can I call from that cell phone? (I want to keep the new number I was given with the current carrier as they had difficulty porting my number over and I don't want to confuse everyone with another number change)
