Prepaid EVDO Wireless Broadband with a USB Modem

Can you use a USB EVDO modem with prepaid wireless broadband?

I need broadband access for a rental cabin and no other form of broadband access is available.  Verizon is the only wireless carrier with any possibility of coverage in my area according to coverage maps.  I most definitely do not want to sign a 2 year contract before being assured that I can receive 3G at my location.  Hence, a USB modem with a one month prepaid plan to do a site survey for sufficient signal strength.

Thank you.
