Replacement phone for mobile minutes

My old Samsung phone with a Mobile minutes plan has died. I was told if I get a new phone then I can roll the minutes to the new phone and still be on the mobile minutes plan. The phones at Verizon are 180-200 and I was told to go to Craigslist for a cheap phone. What do I need to look for? Do I need a phone that is "unlocked"? Does it have to be a Verizon phone? Can anyone help?

Thanks much.

Don't know what mobile minutes are but I was on prepaid a long time ago and I broke my flip phone and a friend had an old verizon flip phone sitting in the drawer she gave me and verizon activated it on my prepaid and moved all my minutes so might see if you can do that.   Mary
