Store associate mistake..

I purchased a new phone and a $35 monthly plan card today. The store associate did not inform me that I would be required to use a $45 monthly plan. I was able to activate my phone and get a number however I cannot use the $35 card. The associate could not return the card and I was required to purchase a "recharge" card with $45 since they were out of the $45 cards themselves. Is there something I can do about spending the $35 on the card that I cannot use?
