Traveling to Europe. Looking at the Prepaid International plan.

Currently, do not have a smartphone but looking to purchase either a Samsung or iPhone. How do I purchase the prepaid international plan and other than the access fee of $15 what other cost is involved (.50 per text message & .69 per call). Also, do I need to purchase a international SIM card and where do I buy it? What about the cost for data usage if I need to use GOOGLE MAP for directions. Thank you.

I think you have plans mixed up.  If you are a prepaid customer you have the option of a $15 add on to make long distance calls

OR

pay per use rates in Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands.

If going to Europe, I don’t believe you have roaming options.

It's not that I am mixed up with the plans but rather you are not

understanding the question and subject heading which I had posted. Yes, I

am currently a Verizon customer with just the basic plan with no smartphone

which I know will not be able to use in Europe BUT at the same time I have

no intentions of upgrading my current plan HENCE the reason why I was

inquiring about purchasing the Pre-Paid plan for International use

specifically Europe (France, Italy and Greece) for a duration of 15 days

along with purchasing a used smartphone.

Now, back to my original question. What is the cost of the prepaid plan

that I would need specifically for International use. I know there is a $15

access fee, .50 per Text message, and .69 per minute but what other cost is

involved such as data and what are the limits for the prepaid plan. Also,

what about this Travel Plan or SIM card for international use?

Verizon does not offer a prepaid plan for international use while in Europe. If added to an existing prepaid monthly service plan, the $15 International Prepaid option offers free long distance calling TO over 40 countries (including Europe) FROM the US/Puerto Rico/USVI.

Since you prefer avoiding changing to a more current postpaid plan that does offer international roaming, you may want to consider purchasing a SIM card and service plan/number with a carrier in Europe that does offer prepaid options in the countries you’ll be traveling to. That would allow you to use the foreign carrier’s SIM card in a compatible smartphone while overseas, leaving your current Verizon account/plan in tact.

If you have a basic phone plan, without data, you are either on a very old postpaid, or a prepaid plan.

If you get a smartphone you are forced to pick a current plan with data.

If you are on prepaid, you also are forced onto a plan with data, but cannot roam in Europe, not with any add on, or prepaid “package.”

The $15 “plan” you’re looking at is not a plan, it’s an add on to an existing plan.  As deloused wrote, it’s a long distance plan.

I think his recommendation is sound.  Pick up a cheap prepaid in Europe and a prepaid plan and leave your current service alone.
