Ask someone to buy them for you?  Verizon doesn't give away free prepaid minutes...

You can get free minutes with just verizon customers or free minutes after 9pm

It depends on what plan you have, with the  99 cent plan  is unlimited to Verizon to Verizon up to 9:59 pm. After that its considered nighttime  and weekend    minutes which is 10 cents per minute, and  the $1.99 plan is unlimited  for 24 hours a day and nights  and weekends are free;

CORRECTION:  Nighttime mnutes are from 9:01 pm to 5:59 a.m. Weekend Minutes are from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 pm Saturday and Sunday.
