I recently purchased a prepaid plan and SIM card, for BYOD option (new unlocked phone, no existing service on it) with request to port-in my existing number from Straight Talk (which is on my old phone). I received the new Verizon SIM card and installed it around 36 hrs ago and received an "activation incomplete" notification on the new phone.
My understanding was that the port-in process should initiate automatically upon installing the SIM card, and can take up to 24 hrs. I waited 24 hrs and (after several hours and much trial and tribulation) managed to somehow get connected to a Verizon rep through online chat, to check on the status of the issue. I never got a straight answer, but the rep did take a bunch of information from me (IMEI, order number, Straight Talk account info, etc) and apparently re-initiated the order (but assured me I wouldn't be charged a second time, as I already had an existing order number), then told me to reboot the phone in 1 hr and the issues should be resolved. No big surprise when this wasn't the case; that's been over 12 hrs ago and still no change.
This is further complicated by the fact that since my Straight Talk number hasn't been ported, I apparently have no service account with Verizon. This account I'm using, says I'm 'logged in as guest' when I log in, and doesn't have my existing Verizon order associated with it. Attempted to call the 0204 number but the bot would not let me proceed without providing a Verizon number. Chat seems just as broken, it won't let me proceed to an actual human without logging in, but when I log in it redirects back to the Contact page and kills the chat. Callback phone option redirects to an error.
Posting here as a last-ditch option before trying to find a physical Verizon store. Would appreciate any pointers from the community, or best option, a response from a Verizon rep who can help sort out this mess.
