How to cancel verizon prepaid and get refund

I was told by a verizon service rep that I needed to take the cards back to dollar general where I purchased them originally.  The dollar general associateii I spoke with said they can't return them.  So now there is $120 floating in DollarGeneral/Verizon space thats not being utilized by me becasue I dont have prepaid services and I can;t apply it to my bill.  So where does the money go?  I am going to reach back out to Verizon today and hopefully get more answers.  They have always been very flexible and accomodating so I imagine when I speak to the right person they will have an option for me other than "no mam" we can't do anything for that!  I know they can and I am confident they will!
