Locked Postpaid phone switch to prepaid

If I purchase a phone on a postpaid  pay it account and pay it off in full, could I cancel my account and use that phone on a  Verizon  prepaid account before the end of the 60 day locked period? And if so, would the phone become unlocked automatically 60 days after the original purchase and activation?

If you are going to pay full price, do so as a prepaid customer and save the trouble and money.  You can buy and use any Verizon phone on prepaid.   Any phone sold for postpaid is automatically unlocked after 60 days
