I have seen a few posts on this topic, but no solutions as to how exactly to accomplish this. I have a pre-paid phone with Verizon that I have been using for about 18 months. I would like to buy a new Verizon phone with a contract. I need to port my pre-paid number to the new phone. Any suggestions as to how to do this with the minimal amount of pain and frustration?
Thanks

I would suggest calling customer service either the prepaid customer service group or the regular group at 1-800-922-0204 and ask how to convert your account into a postpaid account.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

For post-paid CS, press 4 for Other and then say Agent. For pre-paid, I've seen the following, but don't know if it works or not since I don't have pre-paid:
when prompted, enter prepaid phone number, then press 4 (for questions or to change something), then 5 (for store locations or billing questions) then 4 (for CS rep), then enter pass code for account; if you don't know the pass code, enter four zeroes; the system should then transfer you to a Prepaid rep

Here is the outcome of my attempt to port my pre-paid number to a post-paid
account. I hope this proves useful to others who are considering doing the
same.
I purchased a new phone with a contract through the Verizon online store. I
requested a new number for the phone. I received the phone the next day
and activated the phone. I then called Verizon support. After about 4
transfers and lengthy explanations at every step I mentioned that this was
getting a bit frustrating and received a very courteous apology. After a
few more transfers I finally got someone who sounded like he knew what to
do. The procedure was completed while I held. I was assured that the
post-paid number would be cancelled and my pre-paid number ported. I hung
up and turned off the phone. Total time on the phone with Verizon support:
50 minutes. After waiting 10 minutes, I turned on the phone. After the
bootup was complete, I checked the Phone Status. The post-paid number was
showing as the number of the phone. I dialed it with a land-line and it
rang. When I tried to enter my MyVerizon account online, it said I was no
longer registered. I registered a new account, and all the correct
information showed up. All in all, a completely successful operation.
