Prepaid data plan on ipad

I have just purchased an iPad 2 air.

i purchased $20 of data ..1gb...for a month.

i purchased the data July 11th and used up the data by Aug 5th. I went online to get more data..$20 worth.

i was expecting to see the new data show up straight away. It does not show up. What am I missing???
