Taxes and fees charged for loading balance to account

Before going on a vacation recently, I loaded some funds into my prepaid account just in case I needed to activate a Travel Pass session while in Mexico. My account has the amount of funds I wanted to add, but I got a text from Verizon saying there were also taxes and fees added atop of this. Credit card bill for the month shows a charge including all the taxes, etc. Is this a typical thing?

That is a great question! For Prepaid accounts, taxes are always billed when the payment is made to replenish the account. *Brittany

Thanks, Brittany, for the reply. I did some digging around with the charge details in my Verizon account, and the taxes and fees do show up there, just not in the usable balance part. Ever since sales tax began being applied to online purchases several years ago, loading a prepaid account balance is no different.
