I went with Verizon Wireless prepaid because it's a good deal and I love Verizon's coverage. I've been visiting a friend in Hydro, OK, and not thinking twice about it, I've been using my phone, because it's Verizon, so, of course I'm covered. Turns out I'm currently in voice roaming, and the calls ate up my $30 payment for my next month of service. I don't understand this, because the prepaid coverage map on Verizon wireless.com says I should be more than covered. Plus, it would have been nice to have been warned.

The maps are approximations and not exact. The roaming signal is probably stronger. Do you have roaming turned off on your phone? What is shown on your display?

There is no way to turn off voice roaming that I know of. Data roaming yes, but not voice.
