I just saw that the $45 monthly prepaid plan includes 2gb a month as opposed to the 1gb I have now. Why doesn't verizon automatically up my data or enroll me in this plan?

Because not everyone wants their plan changed. YOU are the only one who can change it. The next time you renew your prepaid plan, change it if you want the larger allowance.
