Subject: Unauthorized Change to My Data Plan

Dear Verizon Customer Service,

I am writing to express my deep frustration and concern regarding a recent change to my data plan that was made without my explicit authorization on 8/2/2024. As a long-standing customer for over 27 years, I have always trusted Verizon to handle my account with the highest level of professionalism and integrity. However, this recent incident has severely undermined my confidence in your services.

On 08/03/2024, I discovered that my data plan (an old grandfathered unlimited email and wed plan) had been altered without my consent. At no point did I request, authorize, or approve any changes to my plan, and I am appalled that such a significant modification could occur without my direct involvement or confirmation. This is not only a breach of trust but also a violation of the customer rights I expect Verizon to uphold. I have reached out several times to Verizon and was told the issue was fixed and it had not been. There have been multiple tickets created for your back office to get this resolved over the past 3.5 weeks.

I demand an immediate resolution into how this unauthorized change was made to my account. I expect a prompt reversal of any changes that were implemented without my consent, and I also insist on a clear and detailed explanation of how this could have occurred. Furthermore, I request that any additional charges or fees associated with this unauthorized change be waived immediately.

This situation is unacceptable, and I urge Verizon to take this matter seriously. Failure to address this issue promptly and to my satisfaction may compel me to take further action, including but not limited to filing formal complaints with consumer protection agencies and FCC plus exploring alternative service providers.

I trust that Verizon will rectify this matter without delay and restore my account to its prior status. Please confirm in writing that the necessary actions have been taken, and provide me with a timeline for when I can expect this issue to be fully resolved.

I look forward to your immediate attention to this serious issue.

Sincerely,

Craig P.

Did you change anything with your phone or plan around the same time?

If you have had the same legacy plan for a very long time, it is entirely possible that the current network technology no longer supports it.  I am only a mobile customer, so don't know anything about Fios service, but if what you had was the equivalent of a 2G or 3G phone service - I know I'm oversimplifying things here since you aren't using the phone service, but just using it as an example - 2G and 3G are now defunct in the US, so had to be upgraded if your internet service was something like that.

If, however, it is not a technology issue, then I hope someone with Verizon will get back to you on whom to contact, as these forums aren't the best for escalating issues.

I'm confused.  A data-only plan won't work on an iPhone.  If this is something for a business account, I've read elsewhere that the Verizon reps who hang out here during the week can't access business accounts.  There are things like VText which have been discontinued and Messages+ is also on its way out.  VText was replaced by something else for business accounts, but I don't have any details.

Their initial description makes me think they might have had the Nationwide Plan with the personal email & web for smartphone. However we need them to confirm it either way before we can speculate what happened.

You have to have a data plan to use the internet on any smartphone.

What was the exact name of your plan? Include the service plan name and the data plan name.

Also check your detailed bill for the month it changed and the month or two prior to verify there wasn't any service notices included on the last page of the bill.

While that's helpful information, it isn't the exact name of your old plan nor is it the exact name of current plan. It's hard to figure out why a grandfathered plan was dropped and changed without knowing the precise name and cost.

With the OP referring to an email service on the legacy plan, maybe the Verizon email function has been retired, and so the data plan had to be updated?  With them getting rid of other Verizon apps lately...

With it being Labor Day currently, I suspect the Verizon agents who hang out at the forums won't be on duty today, but with the responses this thread has been getting, hopefully someone with Verizon will stop by tomorrow.
