why does prepaid not work in a roaming zone but i can still send text messages?

i can send text messages and receive them but i cannot make calls. why does this not work?

SMS messages use a part of the data stream that was intended for the Internet providers to send messages back and forth. Wireless  phone companies found they could let customers use these channels to send messages, too.  The funny thing is, it doesn't cost a phone company anything to let an SMS message traverse the network, but they sure know how to charge for it.

i can still send text messages even though the wireless and data are turned off and there are no other funds in my account but the $45 i paid for this month

I'm sorry to hear your having problems with your prepaid account. I'm sorry I don't have access to the prepaid side. Pls call them at 888-294-6804. I'm sure they can get to the bottom of this.
