Hackers can get into personal data from elsewhere; this may not be with Verizon at all. Hopefully the CS rep gave you the number for the Fraud Department, but if it were me, I'd also contact the 3 credit bureaus and put a fraud alert out with all of them since someone is clearly impersonating you to open an account. There are services out there for assisting with identity theft; use a search engine to look them up. Best of luck to you; recovering from identity theft is a complex process.
I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.

This just happened to me as well and I am already getting the runaround from the fraud department despite flagging the new account immediately as not mine. How can someone open a new account with Verizon running a credit report or asking for a credit card at the time of opening?
