why does verizon continue to install games on the phone during so-called "security updates". It happens every single time and i'm sick of it. unfortunately, am stuck with verizon since they are the only carrier that works where we live.

The culprit is the Verizon App Manager, which is installed as a part of the carrier software, so you can't uninstall this app. Unfortunately, you have to disable the Verizon App Manager every time you get a new software update, because it will turn itself back on and otherwise start downloading games and whatever else (I've heard of the Temu storefront getting put on through this same app as an example). Guess it's a means for Verizon to get advertising money by having auto-downloads of 3rd party stuff...
I've heard that Pixel phones do not have the Verizon App Manager installed on them, even if they are Verizon phones, but I do not own one and my phone is (old) carrier unlocked. If anyone with a Verizon model Pixel can confirm?
The only sure way to avoid bloatware such as this is to buy unlocked phones. But the downside of going unlocked is no carrier will troubleshoot unlocked devices for you, so if it starts acting up, you're on your own.
I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.
