Verizon Call Filter not filtering calls

I have Verizon Call Filter on its strongest setting, I get several spam calls daily, mostly from the same handful of locations, and Call Filter blocks maybe 5-10% of them. Why is its performance so bad?

Crooks have assorted ways of getting around filtering technology, unfortunately.  If your phone displays "potential spam" on an incoming call just swipe the hangup icon to reject it.

I'm finding a lot of my calls coming in as #spam calls when they should not be. They are legit from Physicians office and Hospitals.

Thank you got2bcrafty for reaching out about calls labeled as spam. When a call is mislabeled or a legitimate caller is being blocked there are options.

You may add phone numbers to the Call Filter app Allowed list to ensure calls are not blocked (Call Filter App > Block [bottom menu] > Allowed [top menu]).

You may submit the Verizon voice spam feedback form to have the phone number reviewed. The support team will contact the customer directly with a response within 72 hours.

Are they using an automated dialing service for appointment reminders, test result information, and the like?  If so, that's why the spam filter is catching them and you'll have to add the numbers in question to the "allowed" list of your spam filter app or else disable the spam filtering altogether if you're missing a lot of calls.

Happy Monday! We know the importance of managing your service features, especially when it comes to your Verizon Call Filter. We are here to help.

When did the problem start (did it ever work)? What recent changes have you made? Who else is encountering this issues (other account users, etc.)? What exactly is going on with your Verizon Call Filter? Aside from the Verizon Call Filter, any other dilemmas?

Same here, it barely does anything. It does block things on rare occasion so I know itโ€™s installed. I report and block every single number both on the call filter app and on my iPhone. But of course that does nothing

One thing I would like to get to the bottom of - most of these spam calls come through as โ€˜verified by the. Carrierโ€™ in my iPhone, but when I report the number in call filter, it will say itโ€™s from some VOIP service, which it obviously is because thatโ€™s what spammer use. I assume that should make it unverified right number, right?

Hello, TD_____. Help is here as we know how annoying it can be to receive unwanted calls. Please tell us more. What is the make/model of your device? Which version of Call Filter to do you currently have?

I am paying for Call Filter Plus and am still receiving robocalls. When I check my call log within the Call Filter app, the spam call doesnโ€™t even appear in the โ€œAllโ€ section for me to block.  I am using an iPhone 14 Pro Max and the app version is 16.2.

We are checking it with you.  Have you had a chance to  look at Set up an app to filter and detect spam calls where you have been dealing with WoIP callers? Here is the link:  https://support.apple.com/en-us/111106#:~:text=Go%20to%20Settings%20%3E%20Phone.,the%20apps%20based%....

I average 15-20 spam calls daily, many from the same areacode.   I text-chatted with a representative of Verison through its website and suggested I use the Call-Disable feature (*77 to disable incoming anonymous calls). after I reported that Call Filter had not performed since January 2024.

To this day, I still receive 15-20 spam phone calls, the Call-Disable feature itself worthless, and Spam Filter only filtering out two calls on the first of June since I complained.

Now I have googled some of the numbers.  Some appear in the NomoRobo listings.   One  collective set belonging to a phone service that was given a Cease and Desist order in 2023 by the FTC.  These should clearly have been blocked by Call Filter, and obviously have not.

For the record, I have filed complaints about the above phone service given the Cease and Desist order to both the FCC and the FTC, supplying the URL to the previous 2023 Cease and Desist complaint.

I cannot say that Call Filter blocks even 1% of the spam calls received.  Of what use is Call Filter if the  Call Filter service will not do its job?

Thank you for lifting your concern, I know how frustrating spam calls can be. Have you had an opportunity to review your filter settings provided in this thread?

Apologies, I had not realized this was within the MOBILE board. However, this issue does exist within the home service as well, and I have just created a matching complaint within the FIOS Home+Mobile board.

Home service does not have the Block >Bottom Menu / Allow>Top Menu options that the Mobile App may have, only "Blocked Calls" to view and "Blocked Call Settings" that only affords "Deactivation".

Even so, blocking every individual number received is worthless given Telecom providers for Spammers spoof/rotate numbers so they're hardly ever the same number twice. And Allowing is problematic if one is dealing with a contractor who subcontracts ... the phone call you're waiting for an electrical repair may be unknown until received.

But again, apologies.  I have since created a new thread for HOME service for this same issue with Call Filter.  It is not just a Mobile phone issue.

@DerVVulfman  I just checked elsewhere to confirm my suspicions.  Here's the bad news as shown under a link for the FCC when I Googled for information: "In general, robocalls and robotexts to mobile phones require prior consent and calls to landlines are allowed without prior consent."  In other words, spammers and other riff-raff can junk call your landline as much as they want so long as it is within the approved times for telemarketing.  And that was definitely my experience with my old landline where 99.99% of the calls were spam and worse.  Finally disconnected it and mobile life is much quieter. ๐Ÿ™‚

You could try registering your landline under the national Do Not Call registry (https://www.donotcall.gov), but many spammers are crooks who don't care about the law, so that registry is like a sieve.

You are actually  unaware that  the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 covered both residential and wireless numbers regarding "advertisement calls" requiring prior consent.  That in 2020 the TRACED act  allowed for opting out of calls and included robocalls.  And in 2023, the FCC compelled VoIP providers certain duties such as having Robocall certifications.

Meanwhile, the FCC fined an illegal robocall service $300 Million in 2023, and  made AI generated calls wholly illegal on February 8, this year.

So yes, there are laws just the same to cover landlines as there are for mobile.  And cancelling a phone number in possession for 50 years to switch to a mobile is wholly impractical.

Or are you suggesting that CALL FILTER offered and advertised by Verison  since November 2023  as wholly worthless?

Legitimate businesses will follow the laws.  I can't say I had a problem with a reputable business once I told them I did not want to be called anymore and to be removed from the list.  But the junk calls I got on my VoIP landline were from crooks who obviously don't care what the laws say.  I had the anti-robocalling feature enabled on it plus blocking all anonymous callers, and blocking calls from numbers which were spam.  I also made sure to opt out of as much 3rd party marketing as possible with anyone I did business with (even though "existing relationship" marketing is no longer allowed) and still got several spam or sc*m calls daily.  My landline was not through Verizon as home phone service isn't available with Verizon where I live, but clearly this is a problem with other providers too.

Someone I used to be friends with years ago told me he used to work for a telemarketing call center and they were really proud of all the ways they knew to circumvent call blocking features.  And that was 20 years ago.

A landline can often be converted to a mobile number, although there are exceptions.

Converting a home line to a mobile line is not an issue.

This thread is for CALL FILTER.  And whilst this is the mobile thread edition, Call Filter also exists for home phone users.  I understand you recognize that junk calls emanate from those that have no regard for the law.  However, I need point out that Call Filter, as Verison's page states:

Answer with confidence.
Screen and automatically block incoming spam calls on us with Call Filter.
Shut down spam.
With Call Filter, screen incoming calls and say goodbye to spam.

Or are you stating that the claims being presented by Verison to be false?  There are others that have issue with CALL FILTER which is what this thread is about, not that I have one type of phone or another. And here, you say telemarketer centers are proud of such circumventions.

Chris, just a month ago, stated he continues receiving robocalls. TD just two days before had issue.  And DBarich.

With all content given within this thread, it is more apparent, mobile phone or not, that CALL FILTER is quite worthless insofar as the job it is advertised and meant to perform.
