How can I view deleted messages?

Just got a phone for my son for Christmas and he is already showing that he cannot be trusted with one. He has deleted a whole text conversation with someone. We have the Family Base that allows us to see the times he was texting but not the actual conversation. How can I be able to get this conversation.

Unless the texts were backed up somewhere, once they're deleted from the phone, they're gone.
