4.05 update

i'm guessing the 4.05 update was a bunch of crap!!! December 21st Verizon said that they where aware of the problems and a update was coming to fix them. I was told by Verizon support that an update would be coming before the end of March. I have gone through 3 Nexus phones and still can't get signal in my house. I have been a loyal customer since Verizon was Airtouch, and I had pager service with them. But I'm done. I'm tired of the run around with this phone.

I second this post.  Verizon needs to get their head out of their ass and atleast post a comment whats going on.  It was the same problems when they were getting ready to release their "flagship" phone.  No updates at all.  No support.  No help...  Don't come out and tell us you are working on a fix and let it be 4 months later with still no fix.  I love the phone but am tired of the random restarts, only have 1-2 bars of service, waiting 5 minutes for it to switch between 3g/4g, and only being able to use 1 live wallper.  I bought the Nexus because of the promised speedy updated from android. I didn't know speedy meant once per year...

4.0.5 isn’t out yet a lot of people are waiting for it already. It’s anyone’s guess when this update will be released, but rumor has it that it’s aimed for some time in April 2012. Verizon has yet to confirm if these rumors are true.

It has already been leaked that Sprint is shipping their Nexus with the 4.0.4 version of ICS. Sprint operates on CDMA technology also. So if Verizon isn't the hold up, then what is?

Their 4G LTE network is doesn't exist in most of the US, and so they focused on the CDMA radio which has been out a lot longer.  A lot of people are having problems with that more than the CDMA radio.  To simply look at the numbers for the update without knowing what the update includes you would come to the question you just asked.

Google is withholding the update due to bugs that arose when the leaked 4.0.4.  So those Sprint version will have those bugs which you will about to find out what they are and some of them you'd be glad you didn't have to deal with them.

The problem with that argument of withholding the update is that no update is going to be absolutely perfect, so putting off releasing any updates until a perfect one is made ends up yielding no results at all and even more frustration because customers feel that they are being ignored.

At this point, none of the known problems are being addressed, and some people are finding their phone useless, and I'm pretty sure they'll take some of the new problems than the ones they are facing now.

Besides, the ones who have flashed ROM leaks of this have been glowing about this update more than tearing it down.

With that argument there is always a point where you have to WITHHOLD an update because of bugs that are not bearable.  People are complaining about battery life and there is a bug in 4.0.4 that keeps the device from SLEEPING when it should to save battery life.  Those who have flashed the rom have been glowing about the update are feeling the placebo effect.  There's more to it, and before you say I don't know what I am talking...  I have flashed it more than once and since it is a leak you don't get those reports as if it is real deal.  You will see what I am talking about soon enough as Sprint just launched their device.  Smiley Happy

There is always a point where you have to WITHHOLD an update because of bugs that are unbearable, but the battery life bug, if there is one, is the lesser of a few evils. Random cut offs and bad radios to name a couple should trump that. A placebo effect? Those who have flashed it aren't going to be quiet about any bad effects. Especially, since they've had it flashed for months now. And how can the battery be any worse than those on 4.0.2? People have been complaining about battery life since the day the Nexus has been released. That's not localized to version 4.0.4.

Withholding an update for 5 months when the lifespan of your device is less than 2 years is ridiculous. Fixing some flaws is a better avenue to take than fixing none at all.

Dude...  4.0.4 wasn't 5 months old.  4.0.3 isn't 5 months old either...  We are on 4.0.2 which the GSM model didn't get until 2-3 months later...

Dude, read any of my posts. I never once said that 4.0.4 was 5 months old. I said withholding an update for 5 months is ridiculous. An update, being in general, not released for a smartphone for 5 months is ridiculous. There hasn't been an update on this phone for 5 months to address major issues! The GSM model didn't get the 4.0.2 version until 2-3 months later, but has already leaped frogged the CDMA version.

Withholding an update for 5 months... is what you said. For a few months the LTE Nexus was higher than the GSM counterparts. They were on 4.0.1 and we were on 4.0.2. They were recently upped to 4.0.4 and there was never an official 4.0.3 release for both devices. Only the Nexus S 4G got 4.0.3.

So what now?

I know what I said. You just repeated what I said. I know what I didn't say. And I didn't say that 4.0.4 was 5 months old.

What does the LTE Nexus having a higher version for a few months have to do with what I was pointing out? It is still ridiculous for a smartphone device to not have an update for 5 months or have updates withheld for 5 months especially with the type of problems the phone has!

The LTE had a higher version than the GSM counterpart for a few months, but as I said and you reiterated, it has been upped to a higher version than the LTE now ( because the LTE is still on 4.0.2) whether recently or not.

"...there was never an official 4.0.3 release." What are you talking about here? Ok...you're right that there wasn't an official release for both devices.

So in the course of 5 months, even though we had an increment higher version than the GSM, it now stands to date that we haven't had an update for 5 months. So serious problems with an important device to many people hasn't been addressed for 5 months. There is an update that irons out some of those problems, but it's being withheld. That's bad business.

So you are only complaining because the GSM version is on a higher number for about 3 days, and for the past 3 months they were at a lower number?

What are you reading? I'm complaining that there has not been an update to this phone for 5 months though there are clearly some issues with the device. I don't care how long the GSM version has had an update. You brought that up.

I'm complaining that there is an update that addresses some of the issues with the device, but has not been released yet. I'm complaining that they will never create a perfect build so continuing to make us wait with no fixes at all shouldn't be an avenue to take. I'm sure most people will take some (not all) major fixes  over none at all.

You brought up the fact the GSM version got updated to 4.0.4... and you are complaining how long it is taking the CDMA version to get an update correct? So I still stick with what I said...

Nope, I did not bring up the fact that the GSM version got updated to 4.0.4. You brought that up. I brought up the fact that Sprint, a CDMA spectrum using carrier, is shipping its Galaxy Nexus pre installed with 4.0.4. So you are not correct. So sticking with what you said would be fallic because it's based on a false premise.

I also said... There are MAJOR bugs which you will find on Google bug reports which affects the usability of the device.  People have not been quiet about it like you say.  Just because you don't see it through the normal channels doesn't mean it doesn't exist.  Go there and read the reports...  One of the reports is the device will NEVER sleep at all.  100% uptime, and people who used to get 15+ hours of battery life end up getting 5-6 hours tops.  People who used to get 5-6 hours end up getting 1-3 hours.  You will find out soon enough when enough of them come out on Sprint and you watch their boards and see all the complaints start to arise about bugs like these, and I bet you'll be glad they withheld the update until major bugs are fixed.

And I also said...That these bugs you have mentioned many of the leaked users are not experiencing. And once again, please do not imply that I said something that I did not. I never said that people have been quiet about MAJOR bugs. I said that there are plenty of people running the leaked version who have been glowing about it for quite some time, and if they were having MAJOR problems, they wouldn't stay quiet about it.

And pointing out a couple of reports as opposed to the hundreds, maybe thousands, of people experiencing a leaked update that they find amazing favors my point more than yours. There are already people out there with bugs that affect the usability of the device without this update. There won't be a perfect update, but no update for 5 months is ridiculous especially when there have been affecting usability now. Though I have not used the leaked version, I keep receiving great reviews of it.

" But! The Sprint version, which is identical to the Verizon version in that it runs on CDMA and LTE networks has a newer version of Android that squashes many of them and improves performance immensely. How do I know? Well, I have been running the leaked 4.0.4 on my VZW Nexus for over 2 months now and have not had any of those problems. "

This is coming from people who have purchased and tested the Sprint version also.

Bug report pages says different and fan boys often praise and ignore the facts. Just wait and see what I am talking about. I said an example and you still haven't check the bug pages. It isn't ready and soon those Sprint users will find out. I got screenshots of the non sleep bug if you want to see those. There's plenty more on Google bug pages where it should be with logs to debug them.

It's interesting that you talk about MAJOR BUGS and poor battery life like this is killing every GNEX out there. Battery Life is a problem for EVERY Smart phone and when on 4G it's even more pronounced. No one gets 15 hours of use with out an occasional charge if they are on 4G and actively pulling data. And  as far as MAJOR BUGS which ones are you talking about. I have had the GNEX since release and yes it's not perfect but it's far better than my OG or DX. I use my phone and often after 10 hours still have 50% charge remaining and this has been a constant. I use WIFI at work and home and 4G everywhere in between and get 8-10 hours with 45%-50% remaining. There are days where I'll get down to 25%-30% but these are not typical.  Pretty much everyone at work is in aw of my GNEX and several are replacing their older phones with either a Sprint or Verizon GNex. The phone is no perfect but I've not had any serious issues. The main complaint is Verizon not pushing out the 4.04 update. I've heard they are waiting on the 4.05 which is supposed to take care of several reported issues and yes it needs an update but I just don't see the GNex as a deal killer for staying with Verizon. I'm sure you have experienced problems but myself and a large following at Droid Life and My Droid World are very happy with the Galaxy Nexus.
