I rely on my emails to keep me connected and definitely want you to be able to rely on your email notifications, LETFEA35. Let's take a closer look into this. Please ensure your notifications are turned on, http://spr.ly/6589DYNpX. What type of email account is this for? Are you receiving notifications for other features of the phone such as calls and text messages?

It will notify me if I get a new email, but I don't like that. It won't show a badge icon when I have new emails. Regardless of the setting TO show the badge.

Is your phone up to date? Are all your applications up to date? When did you begin to have this issue?

LETFRA35, we are here to continue working toward a resolution. bearone21 provided some good information, which normally helps with notifications. We will need to gather a few more details before we proceed. What type of email account is this for? Are you receiving notifications for other services, such as text? When receiving an email do you receive a sound notification?

This could be a bug.
My S7E stopped showing the number of new Emails for Samsung's stock Email app after the Oreo upgrade. It did work properly prior to the upgrade. The new Email icon does appear in the top bar though. Notifications are set properly. I even did a factory default to cover all the bases. No change.
Between this....and....the continuing inability to retrieve my "@verizon.net" Emails....using the stock Samsung Email app....on my Samsung Galaxy S4, I'm at a complete loss for words.

Hi dexman, we understand the importance of receiving your new email notifications and we are here to help in resolving your issue. Are other notifications on your device working properly? Have you performed a factory reset on your device after the Oreo update, if not we recommend to ensure your information is backed up and perform a factory reset on your device. Here is a link with steps on how to perform a Factory Data Reset. Please keep us updated. http://spr.ly/6589DlfCb

Yes, I did a factory reset/default (as noted in my initial comment). The only notification that seems to be functioning properly would be Microsoft Outlook.
All notifications worked properly on the prior OS...Nougat. The issue started upon the completion of the OS upgrade. Factory defaulting does not resolve the issue. All notification settings are correct.
Looking over other reports, I would say that this issue won't be resolved on the individual user level. A resolution would need to come down from Samsung...unless...this is how the Oreo OS is designed to operate.

dexman,
Until we are able to determine the root cause, we want to try and work with you toward a solution. Please provide a bit more information: What are your other notification settings? Have any other areas displayed problems, and do the badges come back if other notifications are toggled?

All notification settings are active.
Toggling settings does NOT make any difference.
Outlook, after a few test Emails were sent DOESN'T display badges.
The only app that did show badges was Message+.

Talking about settings dexman, have you checked the battery optimization? Go to settings > device maintenance > battery > touch the 3 dots and select advance settings > disable App power monitor.

I'm not clear on how Battery Optimization ties into showing (or not showing) badges. Could you please elaborate?

dexman, The battery optimization can see if it is blocking notifications to help save the battery life. What are the email apps you are using and not receiving the notifications? I would like you to test the emails out while in Safe Mode to verify that it is not a third party app blocking your device from showing notifications. Here is how to put the device in Safe Mode: https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-203892/ Keep us updated.

I am using the stock Samsung Email app as well as Outlook. Neither app displays new Email counts. All I see is the new Email indicators in the status bar.
Other apps not showing the number of new alerts includes:
Avast Mobile Security
Samsung Stock Email
Microsoft Outlook
Google Play
Best Buy

I put my phone into Safe Mode and sent an Email to one of the accounts added to the stock Email app.
The counter did appear on the app.
I cannot test Outlook because it is not accessible in Safe Mode.
