Are you able to use any data on your device?  What software version do you currently have?

The Verizon Wireless software version prior to the 2.2 update is i500.EA28.  To view the software version, please follow the steps below.

  • From the main screen, touch menu tab
  • Touch Settings
  • Touch About Phone
  • View information under Baseband Version

If the device is rooted, this may cause issues updating the software and also voids the warranty.

If you still need assistance, please send us a Private Message with your account and contact information so that we can further assist you.

Thank you,

Ya, it's apparently an issue with the phone. They're sending a new one out tomorrow, with Froyo on it..hopefully. I do love Verizon customer service

I got my phone updated just fine on Wednesday evening.  But my daughter's phone has been getting an error message.  I finally called Verizon after trouble shooting on my own, and was told to take it into the Verizon retail store.  I saw another post that gave instructions of resetting the phone and then updating it.  I think I will try that option first before I take into the store.  My daughter had to leave for class this evening and so I had to stop trouble shooting with Verizon Rep.  She also stated that they're NOT allowing everyone to do it at the same time.  She said they don't want to overload the system.  ?????  Hope that helps.  :smileysurprised:

I have 3 Fascinates - 2 updated just fine so far.   by going to about check for system updates.

The 3rd is getting 'server unavailable' error...try again later..

All 3 have gotten all 3 other updates OTA just fine in the past.

I dont want to give up my new phone for a refurb if I can avoid it.

so I'll give it couple more days..then probably try a manual upgrade via update.zip on my own.

If they're NOT letting everyone get it at once, they why would they send you to store for a possible

replacement without having everyone wait a week or whatever the time frame is first.

Still Waiting in Columbus OH - Verizon says it may take days for them to push it out to everyone.

When I try to force an update - Systems updates -> Check New.  It just quickly returns with no error message.

I called and went to a store and they were no help at all.

If you didn't want to wait, you could always d/l manually, Verizon employee should be able to do that for you

Called both Verizon and Samsung. Neither could help be get 2.2 on my 3rd Fascinate. Both did offer to send me a refurb phone that would fix the problem.  I told them both, i bought mine new and dont was a 'used' replacement.

So, I went to the androidpolice web site, downloaded the update.zip file, copied to the SD card, booted phone in recovery mode and installed the 2.2 update.zip file.   This phone and my other 2 Fascinates all running 2.2 just fine now.

I did do a factory reset on all 3 after upgrading to 2.2.

WHY either Verizon or Samsung wont make the update.zip officially available for people who have trouble with updating is beyond me !!!!    WAY simpler and faster than mailing back a new phone and getting a used one.   Oh well.....

Hi,

I checked my software version as was described. My baseband version is S:i500.04 V.DH12.  Every time either now or in the past since I've gotten this phone every time I go to check for updates the screen just returns to the Innopath Active Care screem with the options Status Check New or About with no error messages.  I'm on firmware version 2.1 update 1.   I went to my local verizon store today and the manager was unable to manually force my update and said he's never seen a Fascinate just return to the Innopath Active Care screen without updating or giving some sort of message. He said that they had no means of helping me in the local store and I should wait a week and then call tech support. I'm willing to be patient but what concerns me is that I'm not on the baseware version that the Verizon rep before me in this post said the phone should be on. Do I have any hopes of getting the correct updates with not being on the correct baseware version or am I waiting in futile?   Thank you.  I also need to add that I'm able to use data services just fine.

I'm in the same boat.  Spent hours on the phone with both Verizon and Samsung tech support as well as multiple trips to the local Verizon store.  I've done a full factory reset and lost all my apps, removed and replaced the battery numerous times, reactivated my service, all to no avail. Repeated attempts to download the update always produce the "update server is not available" error message. I've been offered a refurb but that feels like a pretty unsatisfactory last resort.  Samsung and Verizon reps were adamant that downloading the update from an unofficial website would not be an acceptable option but they can't come up with another solution. Don't know if patience will get us anywhere but it seems like it's all we have left. Losing hope.

I sure would take a refurb than put up with all the hassle you have already experienced. Just make sure you warranty is the same as the time when you first purchased the phone

Victory! I took my phone to a different Verizon store, explained the update server unavailable issue and everything I had done in my futile attempts to resolve it. The tech there had somehow acquired the 2.2 update file, pushed it directly to my memory card, installed it, and all is well.

It sounds like we had the same issues bluestar, down to the fix. Although my 2.2 is pretty unstable, even after another round of factory resets. I'm being sent a "certified as new" device via fedex overnight. I was also having issues with the back key, and the screen coming awake for no reason (even after I cleaned the phone via hard resets).

Hope you don't have any more issues and are finally able to enjoy froyo!

Thanks, an0dyne! I'm sorry you had to go through those factory resets again after the update. I've been so spooked by the whole annoying process that I've turned off my phone which means putting off discovering any new problems until tomorrow. So I have no idea whether my back key is working or not.  I certainly hope that your new phone is really new!

Good morning,

Still waiting here in Texas on April 30th.....Innopath always says "Server unavailable"....my phone updated no problem with the prior Verizon release and is not rooted.  The current firmware is SCH-I500.EA28.

I agree that a locally avaiable download for a manual update is something that should be released for these issues.....

What are my next steps?  I hate to lose all my apps, etc.

Thanks

I have the same problem (server unavailable error msg when checking for updates) and finally called it quits and am having them send a replacement phone. THis problem started with the DL09 update. Was again on the phone with Verizon just now--they even transferred me to Samsung, which they never offered before. Verizon says it's Samsung who will push out the 2.2 update and can tell me when that's supposed to happen. But, of course, the Samsung people when I got through say that it is Verizon that does this.  From the Hex number of my phone they were able to tell me that the 2.2 update is available. Ugh!

My problem now is: anyone know of a reliable backup app that will back up apps and associated data onto SD card? If my new phone comes with 2.2 (current phone has 2.1) will it work to restore the apps onto the new phone? And/or: is there software for Windows XP that will pull all data from phone via usb connection and enable me to put it back on new phone?  ...no, I don't have a rooted phone...

You can go to settings under contacts and choose IMPORT/EXPORT option. Export ALL OF YOUR CONTACTS to SD Card. Take the SD card from your phone and insert it into new phone. Once phone is booted up and you've installed new update (if not already on phone) then go back into contact settings and IMPORT them back to new phone from SD card.
