I recently updated from a flip phone I have had for 12 years. I now how the Samsung Facinate. I too have to charge the phone twice a day. I'm not even using the phone and the battery goes dead. I should have kept the phone I had, the old saying of "if it's not broken don't fix it". What can I do?

I am going through 2 batteries per day also. I called Verizon today and they are sending me a new battery. We'll see if it works!
This didn't start happening though until I did the 2.2 update. But apparently this is the first step we have to take.

Count me in! Charging at least twice per day. Before 2.2 was charging every 24+ hours. All of a sudden the screen seems to be using a ton of battery life, but using same exact settings as before. Phone stand-by battery usage has also increased. Lots of other bugs since the update. Waited so long for 2.2....(sigh)

We have been receiving numerous complaints about the battery life after the Froyo 2.2 update. We are looking into this issue heavily, and will post any updates we can once we hear back from our product development team. In the meantime, please look through the postings by our fellow community members and follow the battery-saving tips.
Thank you for your patience regarding this matter.

FINALLY SOME ONE WHO IS ACKNOWLEDGING THE PROBLEM!!!!
Before the 2.2 update i could go one and a half to two days without charging my phone. Now I'm lucky to get eight hours out of it!! My phone is completely dead halfway through the afternoon, and thats just from being in my pocket during work and not even being used!!
I updated on Thursday night and immediately noticed the difference. I called into Verizon on Sunday afternoon and the woman acted like I was crazy and making it all up. She was very condescending and told me that I was lucky to have gotten so much out of my battery before, because the average smartphone only lasts 6 hours on a charge. I explained to her that I don't even use my phone all that much. Mostly just for texting and E-mail. She stuck to her answer that the phone should only be lasting 6 hours and said they have had no other complaints about this.
I was not at all satisfied with that answer so I went into the Verizon store that evening and the manager did a factory reset, and said hopefully it would solve the problem.
It did not make the battery life any better, and somehow managed to cause the vibrate function on my phone to not work at all. So Monday night I called back and had my boyfriend speak to them because I was so fed up with getting the run-around. The man that he spoke to also said that the battery on a smartphone lasting more than six hours is unheard of. He also said that they had not had any other complaints about this problem. He suggested that I leave my phone on "airplane mode" to get more battery life out of it. What good is a phone on airplane mode?!?! I might as well get an iPod touch and save myself $85 a month!!! And do they really expect me to believe the majority of people are charging their phones two and three times a day??
I just don't understand how they think it's OK to say "that's just how it is" and expect us as customers to be alright with it.
I sure hope they really are working on it, because a phone with a six hour battery life is unacceptable.

We totally agree with you. It will not be this way forever though. In the meantime, it may cause us to loose a little hair in the process (from stress). This issue is making its way through the Samsung ranks and we are doing our best to speed things along. I am on board with you all and it does help to know you are not the only ones with the issues here. I will keep you all posted on any updates I come across, and thanks again for your patience.

Thank you, Mike. Hearing from Verizon that you are aware of the issue and working on it is a big help.

snipped to remove unrelated.
I agree. I also barely use my phone. My phone has been off the charger for 22 hours 59 minutes. I still have about half charge. If I could figure out how to put a pic in here I could show it. The phones are capable of lasting more than 6 hours. And yes this is post update.

We contacted customer service and they suggested a factory reset. We did this and it worked. The factory reset took away the update that was causing the battery usage issue.

I have the same problem after the upgrade. I can only make 2 calls and short ones and I have to charge the battery. I have to have my charger with me all the time at home to keep it charged.

I am having battery life issues, email issues, and more. Verizon sent me another phone, sans battery and storage. I transferred my battery and storage to the "new" phone, charged the phone, turned it on and it immediately downloaded the update which caused all the problems with the first phone in the first place. I am continuing to have problems, cannot get the Verizon dude to call me back even though he promised to stick with me until the problem was completely solved. I'm going to stop at the Verizon store on my way home after work. I'll post here to let you know the outcome.

Here is my promised update on my visit to my local Verizon store. The Verizon rep was very polite, said his brother was having battery problems but had not heard that anyone else was. ????? His "solution" was to do a factory reset, which I did. Today my battery life is still no better, and now I have additional problems that I didn't have before. I plan to stop by again tomorrow. In all fairness to Verizon, they are simply the broker between Samsung and us. The Android update situation is between Samsung and Google. Verizon is caught in the middle. What a mess.

This is not true. Verizon has the final say on all software rolled out to our phones. Also, Verizon is the entity most often responsible for breaking good working software by both adding bloatware to the software and insisting that the manufacturer remove options that are in the original Google software. Samsung does also bear responsibility and unnecessarily forces their UI on us and even more bloatware, both of which again, often break good working software. But Verizon is very much a responsible player in this fiasco and is not at all just caught in the middle.
