Ever since the Gingerbread update, my phone has had issues with charging. Under Froyo, this was not a problem.
Here's the deal...
I plug in the device to charge up, it seems to get to 100% and then starts to drain power while plugged in. It will still display as 100% while plugged in, but once I unplug it well after it hits the 100% point, it then shows what the battery actually is at (ex. 67%). You might ask why I don't unplug it when it hits 100%, but some of those times are when I'm sleeping. When I wake up, it says 100%, but when I disconnect it from the charger, it'll really be like 80% and will display that immediately.
One day I had it plugged via USB to my work computer, it showed 100% the entire time. I was listening to streaming radio all day and because I wanted to be sure it would be fully charged at the end of my day, I kept it plugged in. When I unplugged, the battery was really only at 6% and gave me an immediate warning about my critical battery level. Again, this never was a problem before GIngerbread.
I did a battery pull to see if that would right the ship and I initially thought that it had for a day or two, but I just noticed that the issue returned this morning after taking it off the overnight charge and only showed up at 80% upon disconnect. The only thing I can think of that could have thrown it off is that I restarted my phone yesterday -- maybe that brought the problem back?
This isn't really a battery life issue as I've read in other posts. I'm not noticing any problems with how long the charge last. The only problem I'm having is getting it charged to 100% and keeping it that way until I unplug it.
Sorry for the length, but I wanted to be descriptive of the issue. Anyone else have this problem since Gingerbread? Any solutions?

I'm sorry to hear you are having charging issue with your Fascinate after the SW update. You may have to perform a hard reset on your phone. Sometimes a hard reset is needed after a software update. This should help with the charging issue you are experiencing.
If after the hard reset you are still having the same charges issues, please post back and I will be more than happy to further assist you.
I Have 3 Fascinates 2 are active one is not
They all do it on the one that is not active I did a factory hard reset and it is still doing it even though there have been 0 apps installed
My point is it is the problem is in the firmware eh03
The problem did not exist in the ed05 firmware
It is a firmware not hardware problem and my battery's are fine
PLEASE GET SAMSUNG TO FIX PLEASE
EXACTLY !

Excellent way of proving this and I will try to confirm mine is doing the same. I definitely feel like my phone is not trickle charging when it should be.

My Samsung Stratophere with Gingerbread is doing the exact same thing. I've had it less than a week. It will be plugged in all night then when I unplug it in the morning it says battery is dangerously low please plug in. So I'm unable to use the phone I just bought unless it's plugged in. I'm frustrated too because I live a 2 hour drive from a verizon store else I would be there today. Not happy.

I had a problem with my 3G not connection in January. I hadn't noticed until the mid late Feb. (I am around my house and mostly use WiFI)
After looking through many many forms and trying many things, I took my fascinate to Verizon. The person said I needed to do a factory reset. After they did the reset, I had a brick (it booted up to the Samsung on the screen only) and they said too bad because the phone is out of warranty (great customer service!).
I found a way to reload the original software on the phone (from 2010) out on the internet (which I'm sure voided my warranty which they wouldn't honor anyway) and everything worked like the phone was brand new until a couple of weeks later, when I did the "check for updates" and now have this same problem with leaving the phone on charge and ending up with below 100% charge.
I have now played with the phone and as stated above, the phone charges until the 100%/unplug popup and then just runs on the battery (fyi, I'm a software analysis by profession and do this kind of testing/trouble analysis daily).
I''v found, if I wait about 30 minutes after the 100% unplug and unplug/plugin the charger I can keep the charge at 100% doing it every 30 minutes. If I unplug the charger at 100%, turn off the screen and not play with the phone, it will run all night and maybe down to the mid 90% charge, so this is not a battery problem (and this is with several thing running at all times).
I have now tried the factory reset again. It doesn't help!
I reloaded the original stock software that came on the phone again and that clears the trickle charge issue. I then update to the current Verizon release and it's back.
If my job responded to user problems like this at the speed of Verizon, I don't think the company I work for would be in business. I like the Fascinate, it's been quite nice until Verizon messed it up but I really have to think about renewing my contract once the two years are up.

Verizon broke it and I am not so sure it was a accident IT is the EH03 update that is doing it.
Verizon sent it to the product team on December 19th and they are not fixing it.
If you install the ed05 software the same way you did the eho3 it will fix the charge problem.
Verizon is no longer my service provider because of the way they have treated us as a community I refuse to do business
with a company that treats people the way they do.
I think they broke it on propose to retire it and sell us a new shinny phone with a new 2 year contract.
