Have you gone to settings, apps, running, and made sure there is nothing sneaky running that you don't know about?

Your "Cell Standby" seems high to me. Can you touch the battery discharge graphic and take a screenshot of the radio strength and usage screen?

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Ann, my "Cell Standby" is high.  I know it has been a while since you made that observation as to the OP, but do you have any suggestions for reducing battery usage for Cell Standby?

Greatly appreciated!

A high cell standby might mean you have a weak signal. What information does the cell standby give you? Can you post a screenshot of the detailed graph and the cell standby information? There might be more questions, but let's start there.

I am experiencing the exact same thing after the jellybean update.  GPS location is way off, losing 4g connection, etc.   It must have something to do with the update.   I want to remove the update!!!!!!

Same thing here....if I had the option...give me back my Ice Cream Sandwich. Mine keeps rebooting itself.....just had a long phone call and after I hung up.....that's it....reboot.

Very frustrated and I know when I call 611 or go to the store....there will be no fix.

Have you tried a factory reset? Not from within Jellybean itself, but from turning off your phone and going into recovery mode at boot? I have yet to experience any issues with the phone and it could always be a 3rd party application not knowing how to react to this new OS.

If you would like to try this option, follow these steps.

  1. Turn off the device
  2. Hold the power button and the volume keys together at the same time
  3. Wait until you see "Start"
  4. Using your volume keys, press the up key until you reach "Recovery mode" (The Google logo will appear)
  5. Press power + up volume key until you see "Android system recovery <3e>
  6. From here, use your volume down key to select "wipe data/ factory reset"

You will lose all your data, hence a "factory reset". You can download a free application from Google Inc called "Google Drive" which comes with 5GB free of online storage. You can upload important files there!

Verizon Wireless heavily tests future ota upgrades and they wouldn't release any corrupt updates.

After the Google logo appears and I try to go to step 5, I get the green

little robot on his back, 'tummy' open with a red triangle and exclamation

mark in it....and it stays there for a long time???

Then the phone reboots....problems stay.

I do not know who you are Kevin but I was at the Verizon store on Friday

and I was told to call customer service as they are not responsible for the

software...it's Samsung's problem!?

I am a +$300 a month client and this is the service I get!

I will close my account, pay whatever it takes and go someplace else if

this doesn't get fixed fast...this did not happen on my request and I'm

stuck with it.

Respectfully,

Verizon didn't build the device.  Much like any manufactured product the company that is ultimately liable will always be the manufacturer.

I told various people who were waiting for the JB update that is wasn't ready especially the radios.  I told you so

FYI Verizon would release a 1/2 baked update especially when there is enough pressure from their customers.

Excuse me....so I get from Verizon...the option to upgrade....it sucks and

now it is my problem?(did I get a warning that this could go wrong???)

I am a business owner....this is so wrong.

I smell a law suit.

Good luck with that.  You would have a better shot having it targeting Samsung, and Google.  They are the ones that made the update and are the manufacturers of the device. You could add Verizon a co-defendant for possible leverage.

I would recommend you removing your personal information as it is against the ToU of the forums.

So but you do not give me an answer on my initial remark....I cannot go to

stop 5 for that recovery!

What does that little green robot mean???

Thanks.

That screen is the recovery screen.  I don't see why he recommended this option as you have already done a factory reset.

Do you complain to Bestbuy when you buy that monitor when it breaks on you?  You call the manufacturer, or take it to Bestbuy which has an agreement with the manufacturer to repair or give you a refurbished unit.  Think about it...  It goes with any tech in the industry.

You chose the device, and Verizon helped you get the device by subsidizing it(much like a loan court ruling 1998).  It'll be the same on all carriers...

So you say exactly what I mean, I went to Verizon and they said that it was

not their problem. Software doesn't come from them.....then they should

sell hardware and we the clients decide what to upload from a third

party...then it makes sense.

I drive a Ford Explorer with Microsoft sync on board....who do you think I

went to when there was a software problem? Exactly....Ford....not

Microsoft....and they fixed it. I paid them for the car....not Microsoft.

Verizon has a license with Samsung but I am a client with Verizon....not

Samsung. They should take responsibility.

Anyway...

There is a large difference there.  Ford MADE the part, and they fix the part.  Microsoft Sync is licensed to Ford to use.  Verizon doesn't make the phone Samsung does(Ford), and Google(Microsoft) provides the software.  Verizon is nothing more than the bank that gave  you the loan to buy the phone like you bought that Ford.  I don't see you complaining to your bank that your Microsoft Sync isn't working on your Ford.

Verizon is only authorized to give you another refurbished device which will have the same problem you are having.  Verizon is not authorized to touch the code in the software so they can't help you at all.

Well...if the "Bank" (Verizon) made Ford constantly withhold its updates from Microsoft until they could make their own little changes, and install their own superfluous software, then YES, I would be going to the bank (Verizon) if my update screwed up my car.

Are you done with the silly metaphors?

Verizon sells the phone, and insists on controlling updates, under the pretense of doing its own quality checking to insure it runs well on their devices (while taking the opportunity to lock features and install bloatware.)

This means they SHOULD take some responsibility.

Think of it this way. Do you think a bank would do that if everyone blamed them for things they have no control over? I know I'd want more control if the blame always came my way.

Well Stated.  Let's face it, any time your argument puts Verizon in the hot-seat for having miserable customer service and outrageous prices to go along with that miserable service, you most likely have a winning argument!  Let's be for real, the guy is asking for a little human decency and customer support from a monopoly that could easily afford it.  I'm kind of tired of all the analogies....but here's one last one...Verizon wouldn't be in a big part of it's business w/o the phone/pad/computer/ whatever wireless device.  It is in their best interest to fix it and make this right for the customer.  Quit being an apologist for corporate America....believe me, they do not need your help.  Next you're going to be telling us that AIG SHOULD be suing the US Gov for lending them the $ that bailed their sorry butts out when they went to the casino once too often.  Is anyone else completely disgusted with their "Happy Holidays for AIG" commercials???  Kind of reminds me of another large corporation that is too large to fail so they don't need to worry who they partner with or how support is provided.

V/R,

Condor

I found the sneaky culprit and it is not Verizon bloat. The problem for me was Google now. I had it on and my battery went down to 80% in 2 hours 30 minutes. I turned it off and my batter y was still at 70% after 8 hours 56 minutes. This morning it is still at 90% after 2 hours.

To turn it off (Droid 4)

1 press the magnifying glass.

2 When the search screen appears press the options button (3 horizontal lines) .

3 Select settings.

4 Make sure the google now setting is set to off.

This is what fixed it for me.
