Can't update to 4.1.2

My galaxy s3 seems to be stuck on version 4.1.1.  I have reset various caches, preformed the factory rest twice, hit the check for new updates button to many times to count but all I get for my efforts is "no new software updates available".  The local Verizon Store said they cannot force an update.

Some help would be appreciated.

I have been trying to answer this question for over a week and this site would not let me.  Everytime I tried to sign in, it started doing weird stuff and I couldn't answer.   Anyway, back to the question....go to a verizon store and get a new SIM Card.  That is what worked for me and many others.

Thank you for your response.  On a second trip to the Verizon store, I had had them replace the SIM card and do a full factory reset, the update still would not download.  The rep told me it could take 24 hours to update.  I waited two days before I set my phone back up with my apps just in case there was interference.  No luck.  As my phone is still under warrantee, I am going to call for a replacement.

Whatever you do don't update. The new release has destroyed my battery life, the UI is slower, and there's a seemingly endless list of crashes and bugs introduced. Ever since the "update" my phone overheats, restarts all by itself, crashes, battery lasts about 4 hours, can't add apps to the home screen, and lots of other issues. I would pay cash to have my phone back the way it was.

Hi David Smith. The update is only intended to make your life easier and has been a wonderful experience for many of the S3 users. I'm disappointed you're having so much trouble with it. Occasionally a third-party application installed in the phone prior to the update may cause your phone to malfunction after the update because it's no longer compatible with the new information or needs to be updated itself.

First, check to see if there's any updates needed to your downloaded applications by going to Apps>Play Store>Press the Menu button>Select My apps and selecting update to any in need. If all of your applications are up to date, try running your phone in Safe Mode http://bit.ly/13a4TIC for a day, which will stop all third-party applications from running, allowing you to confirm if the trouble continues without anything else running in the background. If it works fine while in Safe Mode, I'd recommend deleting a few of your applications, starting from the most recently downloaded, until you find your phone running smoothly again and have found the culprit application. If it doesn't run smooth in Safe Mode or if you can't find the culprit app, then a master reset http://vz.to/LfV00q would be the best way to clear the corruption and bring your phone back to working order. It will bring the phone back to factory settings, but will not uninstall any software update on the device.

Thank you

Hi Jennifer,

Do you have any suggestions for recovering the many photos that I lost with this update?

Thanks.

My phone finally updated itself, 2weeks after my last visit to Verizon.  All went smoothly and my phone is operating normally.  I did not lose any apps , contacts, or photos.
