One of my third party chargers doesn't work anymore. A second third party charger does, but that same one won't charge a Nexus 7 (2013) tablet while the tablet is powered on. I haven't tried my third party car charger yet.

I had a chance to try my car charger last night and it charges the phone without turning off the device.

Hey there Nitsuj,
Lets keep your phone energized. Have you been using the same car charger the whole time? Where did you purchase this car charger from? Does it charge ok when you plug it into the wall?
Please provide additional details so I can better assist.

I have two different car chargers, one is a motorola the other a best buy redline or whatever their house brand is.
Before the 4.3 update both would charge my phone just fine, and had for months.
After the 4.3 update, when I plug it in it doesn't indicate it's charging at all for either of these vehicle chargers.
I know they can charge the phone as before the update I would get down to 40% or so, plug it in, drive for an hour and be at 80% or so.
Phone charges fine when plugged into a PC or the wall.

Nitsuj,
Thanks for the clarification. Outside brand charges are usually not recommended for devices. When you plugged it in did you get a message on the phone to use branded charger? If the chargers worked prior to the update there is nothing in the update to not allow them to work again. Have you tried charging a different phone with the chargers? You may also want to clean the charging port on both the phone and chargers. Follow those steps and let us know if you see any improvement.
Thank you,

I am having the same issue, but mine is the Verizon branded car charger. If I grab my samsung cable and plug it into the vacant usb port, then the phone charges fine, but the attached charging cable is not recognized unless I reboot my phone, and then it is only hit and miss. Problems arose after the update. A search online is showing that this is a common problem with this update.

Some more data points.
If I restart my phone it will work with the car charger until it reaches full charge. Then it stops working with the car charger until I restart it again. So if I get to 100% using the car charger, use the phone for a while and get down to 90%, I have to restart the phone before it works with either car charger again.
I have the same problem with the verizon branded car charger I have as well
All three car chargers work just fine with my wife's intensity 2

Thanks for the additional details Nitsuj. Have you tested a different vehicle? This sounds like it may be an unusual conflict with one particular vehicle. Have you tried to charge it with the device fully powered off?

Yes, I have tried it in two different vehicles.
All three chargers and both vehicles had no problem charging the device prior to the update.
The device also charges fine if I reboot it and the connect it and charge. Or if I reboot it while plugged in.
The commonality is the software update, not a bad vehicle or a bad charger.

Hi Nitsuj,
We certainly appreciate the additional details relating to your charger. Having a fully functional device is indeed important. With the recent device update, third party chargers are no longer eligible to be utilized on the device. In order to charge your device you will need to use the factory OEM charger that came with your device or a factory OEM car charger. Once either of these options are utilized, your device will begin to charge properly, thanks!

What an absolute joke. There was a reason I hate apple and now Verizon/Samsung are joining the party of restriction. Will Verizon be sending everyone Samsung car chargers that bought VERIZON branded car chargers at the absurd markups?
What person decides to update the code like this? I'd love to know the decision process so I might understand better? Were 3rd party chargers blowing up phones and causing warranty issues?

So when I buy a samsung car charger supposedly sold to charge the S4, which only provides 700mah of power so is unable to actually charge this phone while using it, will you recant and refund ?

@MatthewS_VZW- are you officially stating that the Verizon Wireless stance is that no other chargers besides OEM Samsung chargers are supported? Where in the release notes for 4.3 does it state that no other chargers are supported?
Is VZW ready to refund/replace the chargers that they sold their customers? VZW sold us the officially branded Verizon Wireless car chargers which work on all phones and the S4 pre 4.3. If you're stating that they no longer work, I/we fully expect a refund or replacement ASAP.
Please advise to when we can all expect said refund/replacement.
Thank you

100% Agree with you abean, I paid for a "working" charger and thats why i went with VERIZON official charger but if they cant sell something that works then a refund is definitely needed so I can get a proper one.

I think the reps on here may not be providing accurate information at this time. Check out my latest update over here: https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/1016768#1016768
Spent some time chatting with VZW again tonight and got a little bit further this time.
- They are now confirming that there are known issues
- They are supposedly working with Samsung at this time as the issues belong to them and they have to fix
- They have indeed shut off all new updates on the S4
- Unknown to if it's confirmed that you have to use Samsung OEM chargers on 4.3
- No ETA as of now to when we can expect any sort of a fix
Well, at least if you get a refurb like we did, you should be able to hang out on 4.2.2 until they get this cluster figured out.

So are you stating that the official Verizon Wireless car charger is no longer a usable option with this phone? Will VZW be providing refunds for accessories purchased!?

I have the verizon samsung s4 and a few days after the update, my phone stopped charging. I am using the original white samsung charger that came with the box and I still get the error message that I need to use the original charger. I've tried restarting the phone with the charged plugged in and without and it still will not charge. Anybody have any solutions? Thanks in advance.
