Dropped calls on Galaxy Nexus

I'm sure there is already a discussion on this - just felt like piling it on.  Getting too many dropped calls on this phone.

New to the Nexus as of 48 hours ago but so far, any call that goes say 16 minutes or more, I drop.  Not sure if being in the mountains of Colorado has anything to do with it but it seems strange that for 16 minutes all is good and then BAM...I get the "Hello?  Where'd you go?  I lost you..." type of response from the person on the other end.

What are people doing?  Returning the hardware and trying a new phone?

I'm also in CO, and am having very similar issues.  I haven't really timed it, but 16 minutes sounds about right.  But I've also lost calls earlier.  And each time it's the exact same, I can hear them but they cannot hear me.  It happens at least 3x per day.  This NEVER happened with my HTC Incredible, which makes me believe it's not a Verizon issue???  Two things changed, I went to 4G and to Nexus phone, so it's one of those that are the issue.  Very frustrating, I'm about to turn it in for another phone.

Just to clarify, this thread seems to have people with two different issues.  There is a microphone issue where the call stays connected, but the phone stops sending outbound audio.  That's not a dropped call as far as Verizon is concerned.  The call only disconnects when I have to hang up and redial to get the microphone working again.  Then there are others with network  connection issues that lead to actual disconnected calls, and those don't appear to be related to the microphone issue.  It's helpful if we all use the same terminology when describing our problem.

Agree that there could be, and probably are, multiple issues going on and I'm pretty sure I experienced both.

I soul-searched on what to do but at the end of the day, since I travel a ton, I need a phone that doesn't drop calls/drop outbound audio and has solid connectivity both Wifi and voice...so I abandoned the GNex for the Rezound.  I'm now on day 5 with the Rezound, and all I can simply say is that in the exact same areas I was in with the GNex, the Rezound has performed flawlessly and had better overall connectivity.  Obviously I'm not here to turn this thread into GNex vs. Rezound debate but to me it came down to feeling that after trying two GNex's and having issues, it was time for me to move on...and I'm glad I did.  Very happy Rezound user.

I am in KY having similar issues.  I am on my second phone and second SIM card.  I too, like another was told to start hitting ### send after dropped calls, but not really sure what this is supposed to accomplish.  The phone is worthless to me like this.  When I make or receive a call, all the bars turn grey and then the calls all go the same route.  "i can't hear you" then beep as the phone drops the call.  When I called Verizon they acted as if they have never seen this problem before, but clearly I am not the only one.

I am dropping calls, too..and I know it's not a fluke.

My calls used to go without interruption on drives home (30 minutes).  Now, I drop calls frequently on the drive to and from home.  Not a coincidence.

When I pickup the phone and want to do a search or use data, I get a message saying no network connection found.  This never used to happen with my 3G phone!

I like the 4G speed, but getting connected and staying connected is an issue.

What's the resolution?  Is this something Verizon will fix (and I am not talking about monkeying around with the #bars displayed just to make it appear that there's a stronger singnal).

Do Verizon moderators comment?

The only way to fix the problems is time...  Building a nationwide network isn't easy to do especially at the speeds Verizon is trying to build them.  This is the same problem AT&T had when they put up 3G quickly.  If you honestly can't deal with the growing pains your best option would be to drop down to a 3G device and wait until Verizon gets rid of the kinks.

Before anyone calls me a shill or whatever for Verizon Smiley Happy

1. Sprint 4G network is a piggy back off of Clearwire which was established.  So most of the kinks were gone LONG before Sprint offered 4G.  Now they are moving to LTE and trying to piggy back off of Lightsquared.

2.  AT&T and T-Mobile uses 3G advertises as 4G.  AT&T is now rolling out 4G, but in a few places.  T-Mobile is going to dwindle down even more as they don't have the funds to compete to bring true 4G.

3. I may have been with Verizon for 14 years(add 3 more if you count the carrier they acquired here).  I also have AT&T, and T-Mobile services.  Sprint I dropped me like a bad habit after they dropped me due to "Domestic Roaming" abuse...  I was promised in writing they were building a tower less than 1/2 a mile from my house in under 6 months.  They terminated my contract without ETF.  Since then never had their service.  I am no fan of any carrier as you can see.  I use them all pretty much.  Here in Hawaii though I can go pretty much ANYWHERE and have service.  AT&T does a pretty good job...  Sprint and T-Mobile kinda suck, but my often place of travel they fair well.

Same issues with dropped calls.  For me, it due to completely losing both voice/data connectivity.  I have discovered that if I disable 4G, the phone is fine.  However, I paid extra for 4G, so that's not a viable solution.

You don't pay extra for 4G. There is no price difference between the networks...

You pay an extra $100 for the device. There's a reason the iphone 4s is $199 and recent 4G LTE super phones enter at $299.

Well, it is NOT because they are 4G. It has more to do with memory.

You say that the iPhone 4S is $199. You are PARTIALLY correct. The 16 GB iPhone 4S is $199. The 32 GB iPhone 4S is $299, the same price as the 32 GB  Galaxy Nexus and the 64 GB iPhone 4S is $399. There are no "4G LTE super phones" at that price because there are none which come with 64GB. On most Android phones, you can go out and upgrade to a 64 GB micro SD card and put the total price of one of the LTE phones closer to $399, though.

Update...

I reported my dropped calls to Verizon tech support.  They had me speak to their network guys who opened a couple tickets.  I am being asked to send in 'tags' (### send) when calls are dropped.  Supposedly they'll analyze thoroughly including times, longitude/latitude, etc. and report back.

Has any one else done this?  I'm hoping for good results.

OH and one other thing...it seems my phone often reboots when calls are dropped.  Not sure what that means.

Any one else??

This seems to be a common problem. In fact, it's been posted on all the android forums, and posted here elsewhere.  Both my wife and I have had it happen on our phones. Its always during a 15+ minute call Its annoying, and I hope a fix is coming soon. Some people have had luck after they change out the Sim card. Bad batch?

The only call I've dropped was in my office, everyone there on the first floor with Verizon gets a bad signal.

I talked to my brother the other day for over an hour.

Not everyone has the dropped call/data issue.

I could understand this if it was actually a call being dropped, but my signal stays strong and I can hear the other person perfectly. They can't hear me - just very brief sound bites every second or so. The only fix is to hang up and re-dial and hope it doesn't happen again. Like all of these phones, the problem isn't with everyone's unit. We just are the unlucky ones. We both bought from the same dealer within 2 weeks of each other, so I'm starting to think maybe the Sim card might very well be the problem.

I am also experiencing the issue of one-way audio.  All of a sudden, the other party can no longer hear me.  The call does not drop, but I have to end and redial for the person to hear me again.

I am on my second Nexus and SIM card with the same results.  Thus far, I have not been able to get anyone with support to acknowledge that there is an issue.  This is very frustrating!

I have until 1/15/12 to return the unit.  If anyone has received confirmation from Verizon that there is a known bug, please post any information as to who you spoke with at Verizon.

Exact same issue here, and I'm also on my second GNex and results are the same. Friday is my last exchange day and I'm seriously thinking about bailing to the Rezound. I travel 100k miles a year so connectivity and calls just have to work.

The next time you drop a call check your battery log. It shows how long you were connected to the network.

It is not really a "dropped  call".  It is a one-way audio issue that forces you to end the call and redial the other party.
