Email/Password

I keep getting these annoying messages:"sign-in error for sfburke"; and another one with the Google symbol next to it which says "Account action required." They both ask for my email password, which is the same one I have been using for years with my email client, and the same one I set up with Verizon in my profile, and both passwords (same in each case) are deemed incorrect. My email and everything else work, but I get these messages several times a day -- every time I turn the phone on or wake it up. Any ideas? BTW, I already removed my email account and reinstalled it. No dice.

Hi sfb5761,

I access my email on my phone daily and I can only imagine how inconvenient it is to have email access issues. Let's get to the bottom of this issue! Who is your email client/server? If Yahoo, please try installing their email application http://bit.ly/UXvYa8 and test. If other, please visit their support page and confirm that you have the correct email settings for your mobile. Keep us posted.

My email works fine. The email provider is cox.net. I have the correct settings and the password is the one I have used for years with Cox and for everything else except sensitive stuff. This started 4 or 5 days ago. I get 2 error messages, one with the Google symbol next to it which says: “Account action required”; the other says “Sign-in error”. Both tell me to enter my password and both reject the password. At the Chat tech’s suggestion, I removed both my Cox accounts (the other one is not affected), rebooted the phone, and I still get those 2 error messages. I also have a gmail account with a different password and that is not affected either. It’s just very annoying. And if I did a factory reset that I do not want to do because I have too much stuff to lose, I don’t see any guarantee that the stupid messages won’t continue to come up.

Hi sfb5761,

Email is an important feature! I know how frustrating it can be to receive unknown error messages on your device. Let's get this resolved. I believe your email software is corrupted. I would also recommend a Hard Reset http://vz.to/LfV00q to your device at this point. Gmail backs up most the information on the device. You would need to log back in with the same gmail account once the device has reset. You can back up your contacts to our server using our free Back up assistant application. Log in MyVerizon to verify your contacts have been backed up before reset http://bit.ly/xB4iTc . Keep us posted.

Have a great day!

My email and everything else works just fine on the phone, using either Cox or K-9. These messages are annoying, but not enough to make me do a factory reset. I don’t want to lose my apps, some of which were not free, and not through Google, and my ringtones, which I also paid for.

I finally gave up and did a hard reset, and it was quite painless, actually. The error messages are gone and most of my stuff was restored. The rest of it I restored from backup to my computer, and reinstalled the apps that didn't make it. All is well.

Sounds to me like it has something to do with a Google password or Gmail password and not your Cox email. Did you set up a Gmail account or some Google password? Perhaps your Cox Email and password accesses another app such as Facebook or something like that and that app for it work requires a password.

No, under both messages it lists and is directed at my Cox account. Besides, I tried my gmail password just in case. Didn’t work.
