What is wrong with Verizon? They've had 8 months to release Froyo, and other phones are about to receive Gingerbread.
I don't want to hear about "stringent testing" or anything else. There's zero excuse for this.
Can a Verizon rep please comment? Can we simply be upgraded to Gingerbread (2.3) instead of Froyo?

Do you know how long the European counterparts have been out and how long they had to wait? You know they are also regulated differently than here too right?
Best to say something when other Galaxy S devices in the US starts getting GB... Then you would have more of a legitimate complaint.

The problem here is that some Verizon customers continue to make excuses for Verizon. Why is it that you consider it acceptable that Verizon totally ignores customers request for information? This is not National Security, ok? Verizon customers fight here like rabid dogs, you have the the group that is offended mostly by the lack of Verizon Corporate response and then you have a group that has an excuse for every example that is presented of Verizon's poor customer service.
To the second group: Why do you continue to cuddle Verizon? Do you allow yourselves to be ignored by every single company you do business with? Why do you find it acceptable for Verizon to steal from millions of customers $1.99 at a time, but will take the time to point out that if some guy that pays for an unlimited data plan was to hook up a usb cable to his laptop and go on the internet; he is a thief. Verizon steals by the millions, not a nickel or dime at a time. What is wrong with the way you people think?
You badmouth the little guy and you protect a multi-billion dollar corporation that will simply rob you blind if you don't pay very close attention to each and every monthly bill, I know that you are fully aware of all the money that Verizon has been fined for overcharging millions of their customers...but just don't care, not important, not relevant...unless maybe one day you discover they stole directly from you. Perhaps you will care then...no, you will continue to defend then.

Smokie, I agree 100%, there are some on this forum that are suspiciously and vehemently "pro-verizon". Tidbits responds on this thread citing the fact that European service providors are regulated differently to the US, yet on another thread he/she tries to belittle the fact : "Consumer protection laws? Sorry I think of it as consumers who can't think for themselves laws." is what he/she said on another thread.
To respond to the comment about regulation/consumer protection laws in Europe, does Tidbits even know what those laws are and how they came to be? Consumer protection laws in Europe are a direct response to consumers making complaints over the past 30 years, unfortunately the response in the US is to encourage people to file lawsuits rather than pass law(s) to stop corporations like Verizon from openly misleading their customers.
Does anyone else find it strange that someone who doesn't even own a Fascinate spends so much time defending Verizon in the Fascinate forum?

Tidbits also asks if we know how long "European Counterparts" have been out, again trying to deflect the heat away from Verizon. How long a phone has been out has nothing to do with the actual issue - Froyo, and now Gingerbread, was released by Google worldwide at almost the same time, how soon it gets to the user has nothing to do with when the phone was introduced, rather it is how long it takes for the manufacturer and vendor to customise it to fit the hardware. It's quicker and easier in Europe because they don't have companies like Verizon trying to boost their profit margin by adding in their own c**p - bloatware.

Move to Europe and let us know how you like it. I have personally lived there for a few years, and I tell you... US and Europe are two different markets, and two different ways of doing things. I would think 99% of the people complaining and trying to compare Europe to the US would change their mind if they lived there, and there's that 1% that like to troll around about it.

I lived in Germany for a year, and I loved it. I know how to keep a low profile in europe, though. I only had problems once when someone found out I was american, and decided the actions of my country's political system automatically were mine. this was at a place where a lot of americans hung out, though, and not somewhere I went too often.

Again I get quoted and apparently misunderstood: Let me try again to be clear. I believe the US is the greatest country on the face of the earth, this discussion has NOTHING to do with which country is better, OK? I have been consistent from the onset; I have asked of Verizon Corporate to simply make an announcement with information. Such as YES or NO we will update Fascinate to Froyo.
Should the answer happened to be yes, then please explain why is taking so long. Please notice the word: WHEN does not appear in my statement anywhere. My complaint is about the SILENCE, not about when or if. What I request is reasonable. The silence to me is offensive. What exactly is so hard to understand about the above?

Then you SHOULD already know the answer. Samsung as stated BEFORE the release of ANY Galaxy S device ever release that ALL Galaxy S devices will be upgraded to Froyo. They did not however state WHEN.

I write about Verizon Corporation and you talk about Samsung. I have never read or recieved any information from Samsung, ever stating that the Verizon Fascinate will be for a fact updated to Froyo... never. Please provide a link to the statement you made above from Samsung corp, not the people that answer their phones or write e-mails, I want to see a Corporate news release not hearsay.
Now back to Verizon Corporation, the one I paid for the phone, the one I pay money to every month, the one that allows their employees to make statements that do not coincide with reality....Why the Silence? Make a statement in the News section of your own Forum.

Pretty sure the docking station created by Samsung to work only with 2.2 was a direct line to knowing the Fascinate would be upgraded (eventually). Some things are obvious." When" however is not.
As for the previous rant about Verizon .... it's not that some of us are great defenders of this company. Not really the case at all. It's just that some of us have used more than one or two providers and come to realize that should you choose to move to another provider, all you would be doing is getting a chance to argue with some NEW people, complain about a different PROBLEM and have more DROPPED CALLS and POOR COVERAGE in comparison. Bottom line is, good luck thinking any of these companies give a bleep about you or me or any long term customer to the extent which you some how feel entitled to. We're not being proponents of "BIG BUSINESS" we are simply being realistic until any company out there can prove it differently.
I have become increasingly irritated with those of you who feel that if any customer signs on to these forums and doesn't blast the bleep out of VZW or Samsung, that they are somehow employed by one or the two. Just pretty much is a stupid way of thinking IMHO. Get over it. Get your Froyo or wait for the OTA but come up with something else that is useful because much of this whining crap isn't. Have a happy Froyed day!

When" however is not. So you believe in Froyo because a dock sold for our phones does not work without 2.2, however if an owner believed in Froyo (at time of purchase) because he was told by a Verizon employee, he's an idiot. That really is very logical thinking.

So your realistic approach is all big companies will shaft you, get used to it and shut up about it. I don't believe you for a second, your personality comes thru when you write loud and clear, if a company of any size **bleep** you off; you will fight back and by no means quietly.

However it does bother you apperently that I voice my discontent in regards to Verizon's Silence which is the only area that I have repeatedly mentioned. The arrogant silence I find offensive and I will not shut up about it.

Now I know you are trolling. You could search that information without fail and find numerous instances from Samsung in tweets from Samsung USA stating they are working on the update, you will always find the CES where Samsung stated We WILL update ALL Galaxy S devices to 2.2. These are NOT hearsay and officially from Samsung themselves.
The only thing they didn't say was WHEN. Since Samsung released the 2.2 source code for the Fascinate recently it's only a matter of time before it gets released to the Fascinate.

I don't tweet, whatever that is. I did not attend the CES. Since it was so simple you could have easily provided a link supporting your statement, instead you call me a troll. My problem is with Verizon not you.

There's already countless posts before the Fascinate coming out to the effect that Samsung themselves stated ALL of their Galaxy S line will get Froyo. Why do you think majority of the complaints in here is about WHEN more than IF. As I said before a simple search you would have found that information regardless if you never tweet nor went to the CES. So how do you know what the Froyo update is, and not know what a tweet is? Things like that make me feel you are trolling more than actually care about the update.
Believe what you will, but Samsung is the ones that make the device, and Verizon is more like a 3rd party retailer. Like with Any company out there like HP, Gateway, and the like. HP acts like they push an update to their devices with their name on it, but they get the update from their barebone providers. Without those updates HP wouldn't give you an update.
BestBuy for example you buy an Xbox and it was bugged would you bug BestBuy for an update or would you bug Samsung. As I have pointed out the Fascinate Source Code was released recently, and now it's just a matter of time before you get the update.
You can find the source code HERE
Just navigate to mobile phones and then find your model number and you will see it right there. That in on itself means that it was worked all that time people been asking if it was worked on or if they will ever get it. The proof is in the pudding.

whoops
http://www.androidcentral.com/galaxy-s-gingerbread-update-temporarily-suspended-google-says-vodafone
Ruh-roh. Here's some bad news for European Galaxy S owners following the triumphant roll-out of the handset's Gingerbread update last weekend. According to Vodafone UK, the update has been "temporarily suspended" by Google due to "an issue".
Vodafone doesn't say exactly what the problem is, but claims that its Galaxy S variant isn't affected by it, and that it's working with Samsung to have the update reinstated. Based on Vodafone's comments, it's looks like all Gingerbread updates for all European Galaxy S phones should be subject to this suspension, though we haven't been able to confirm this yet.
In the meantime, Vodafone has apologized to its customers and says it's "working hard to address the matter with Samsung."
