FASCINATE FROYO UPDATE, CRYING WOLF AGAIN!?

I'm not holding my breath about the next heads up for the froyo 2.2 update for the fascinate! Who knows, maybe Samsung and Verizon purposely leaked the update info just to placate us, again! Even a broken analog clock is correct twice a day so maybe we will someday get updated, or not. How much would you like to wager that if it is ever released it will have more bugs than a $5 a night flop house! What frustrates me is Samsung and Verizon has not shown any compassion for their customers about froyo after the sale. They got our money and from what I've seen they don't want to know us until it is time for a new cell phone and two year contract. Verizon expects up to stay with them and Samsung expects us to buy another one of their cells.

The fascinate isn't the first "smartphone" produced and marketed. Samsung and Verizon definitely have a major problem with writing reliable software programs for this cell phone! They are very much like the Keystone Cops and the gang that could not shoot straight; feel free to insert your own analogy. They take one step forward and five steps backwards. Isn't it obvious by now why froyo 2.2 has not been released for the fascinate!? Unreliable will be one of the words associated with these two companies.

Months ago froyo 2.2 was released by Samsung in the U.K., Canada and parts of the Nordic. Apparently Samsung released a valid version of froyo 2.2 to these parts of the world. Why can't they do the same for their customers here in the U.S.? Are our fascinates that much different than theirs? Is the reason it hasn't been released because of the bloatware and because Verizon and Samsung are having a hassle over feature updates? Is it possible that Samsung and Verizon have led us to believe there would be a froyo 2.2 release but never intended to follow through with it? Has the fascinate hit a brick wall with eclair 2.1 and won't go any further down the road of updates? There are a ton of questions that fascinate owners have been asking and we're basically told put your hands down, sit down, shut up and we will let you know when we are ready if and when froyo 2.2 will be available! When you contact Samsung you get the obligatory garbage that it won't be released until it is reliable. Wasn't it reliable when it was released overseas? Verizon has nothing informative on their web-site addressing the froyo 2.2 update. For any relationship to properly work there must be communication!

This has been a learning experience for me. When I first got the fascinate I had high expectations that it was a great cell phone, what a disappointment with Samsung and Verizon! I have been reading a lot of the cell phone forums. Samsung as well as many of the other manufacturers make their customers wait months for a promised update. These companies and carriers are successful only because of their customers and they have to be made aware of the consequences of their inaction by not being a repeat customer! The only thing they care about is their bottom line! My next cell phone will absolutely be the Apple iphone. When Apple tells you there will be an update, shortly they follow through with their promise or are very close to the announced release date.

Unfortunately, you can't have it both ways. Either you give Samsung and Fascinate time to properly test the software (which is frustrating) or you get the software earlier and live with the bugs (which is harder to accept).  

No matter how much we think Froyo is past due, they can't release Froyo for the Fascinate until it ready.  That means it has to be optimized for Verizon's network and software.  If it isn't, you will not want it.  Comparisons to other platforms and countries just don't matter since they are NOT the same phone.

Remember that Verizon has given us the DL09 and EA28 updates, each of which has improved the phone's performance.  Are they Froyo?  No, but I can live with an optimized version of 2.1 until Froyo is ready.  It sounds like I don't have long to wait...

  I look at it from this way. All of the phone carriers in the past never had to really worry about updating the software on the phones because there really was not a need to update them, unless there were problems / fixes. Windows SmartPhones really only had OS updates every couple of years, and I don't think RIM and their BlackBerry OS ever really had too many. Apple and the iPhone was the first to really think about updating the OS of the phone, but that doesn't happen that often either. Android is the first to really push out updates to it's OS, so I am sure it is taking the Manaufacturers and all the carriers time to figure out how to make sure the version work right with their phone, without killing the phone. 1 wrong piece of code pushed out, and your phone is basically useless.

According to a wiki, the version release dates are:

9 February 2009, Android 1.1 update for Android was released for T-Mobile G1 Only

30 April 2009, the official 1.5 (Cupcake) update for Android was released.

15 September 2009, the 1.6 (Donut) SDK was released

26 October 2009, the 2.0 (Eclair) SDK was released.

The 2.0.1 SDK was released on 3 December 2009

The 2.1 SDK was released on 12 January 2010.

20 May 2010, the 2.2 (Froyo) SDK was released. 

6 December 2010, the 2.3 (Gingerbread) SDK was released.

26 January 2011, a preview of the 3.0 (Honeycomb) SDK was released.

 You have to admit that this is quite fast for updates to a phone, and for all the manufacturers to work on it, release it to the carriers, and for them to work on it to release it, would probably be intense.

  Am I waiting for Froyo to come out to fix the things that were promised by the Verizon's "TellThemAnythingToMakeTheSale" Salespeople? Of course I am. I also want it right though.

welp, eb01 has now made it to xda and unfortunately Bing is back for those that hate it.  There's an option in the browser to change the default search engine but it doesn't work. oh well.  Hopefully battery life is a bit better.  And lol, anyone notice anything out of place in the screenshot below?

The 3G icon isn't there because I'm on wifi.  Look closer at the dialer,  think samsung has some dyslexic developers.

I am sure that Verizon will update the Fascinate to Froyo it will just ake some time, little by little you see the firmware and bug fix trickle down preparing for Froyo. Just leacked on androidcentral.com is EBO1 Froyo (firmware 2.2) so my guess is Froyo will be soon.

This post seems like you have more questions than answers or facts.  Not that it's a bad thing.

A valid version might be a bigger statement than you think.  Maybe they chose to release this update in these areas and then found issues that needed to be addressed before they released it across the US and other areas?  I mean since we are asking questions, why not this question?

Looking at the history of update to the OS and previous smartphones, one would think this question is misleading.  The other poster made this clear with the listing of updates we have received since 2009.

Wasn't it reliable when it was released overseas? Maybe not.  Anything other than experience with this is an assumption.

The Fascinate is in fact a great phone.  My husband has the iPhone and has enjoyed it but since my acquiring this Fascinate he has increasingly grown envious of my phones capabilities to be more personalized and the freedom of using other apps for his music and other features that are not specifically only for the iPhone.  I personally like his phone and feel that the iPhone set the bar for all these other manufacturers to match up to. I didn't buy the phone for the update.  I bought it for the features and fast processor.  I have been satisfied with both.  I hope to be happy with the potential update as well.  See no need to change to an iPhone over and update.

The (Costco) salesman said: 2.2 will be out soon!  Google will be properly intergrated and navagation will work, blah blah blah - OK, I'll take it! Beautiful phone and it sounds like the things at issue with 2.0 will be history in short order!

What a farce!  My whole buying decision would have been different had I known I wouldn't see 2.2 on this phone by now. Hell, by October 2010!

At Christmas I saw a Verizion advertisment showing 3 phones and 3 different Android OS versions.  The ad was oriented around the OS version and the Fascinate was not the 2.2 model! Verizon was using this phone's OS as a reason to buy a (more expensive) phone.  I knew right then and there I wasn't going to see 2.2 on this phone till waaaaaaaay down the line (if ever).

As a new customer coming from Sprint, I like Verizon network but because of this experience I hate them as a company.  Additionally I was told I had free Verizon to Verizon minutes and texting with the 65 Plus plan and ended up finding out neither was true and I had to jump up another $20 a month to cover my useage.

Point the finger all you want but its Verizon's responsibility. I don't see a 'Good' company here, just another 2000 lb. gorillia doing the money grab like their brother AT&T does.

Quite frankly I feel very taken!

RoyB_VZW I have done that many times in the past 3-5 years and never got any emails from Verizon on products or updates. And yes I check spam folder everytime I check mail.
