If this doesn't just beat all! The opensource code has been released from Samsung, Verizon has stated they will be doing a push (OTA) for the Froyo 2.2 update on a random basis....and everyone is still unhappy! I would have thought there would have been a little more happiness and excitement in the air this morning! Come on, people, don''t worry - be happy!

Verizon Wireless will begin pushing Android 2.2, Froyo, to the Samsung Fascinate tomorrow. Enhancements include support for Adobe Flash Player. Customers can visit www.verizonwireless.com/fascinatesupport for more information and download instructions for the software update. Customers will be able to download the update manually starting tomorrow by going to Settings > About Phone > Update Phone.

I know the Source code was released, where is there anything about Verizon officially doing the update? If I see the notification, I will be happy as a clam.
Who is still complaining?

I am the one who said Verizon is offically pushing the Froyo update - the confirmation I have is in an e-mail I received from Verizon - please believe me. If I could figure out how to get the e-mail off my phone and on to this forum, I would do it! Sorry, but that is best I can do!

From your phone, send it through email to your Google account, then on the computer, login to your Google account, then copy and paste.

Here is my "inside information" :
4/15/11
Thank you for contacting our Verizon Wireless website. We understand your frustration with not having a set date on when the firmware update for Android Operating System (OS) 2.2 will be available for the Samsung Fascinate. We are happy to assist you with checking for updates for the Samsung Fascinate.
We appreciate your interest in our products and services. Based on the information provided, you are aware that Verizon Wireless has received the latest firmware update from Samsung. The firmware update is pushed to Samsung Fascinate users to ensure the network is not overloaded with downloading the update. Currently we do not have a specific date of when the push will be received by your device as it is random. If you would like to manually check the Samsung Fascinate for the latest update, please use the link below for instructions:

Well, at least you had some inside information to post, unlike some other people around here who claimed to have "inside information" that Froyo would not be released to the Fascinate. Seems like the goddes of the forum might need to eat some crow. I wonder if we will ever see an acknowledgment from her that she was wrong?
In any case, there are going to be some people who are upset they haven't gotten the update the first day it is out. Just human nature.
I've also noticed on some other forums there are still naysayers stating that the source code being released means nothing and that the update still won't happen. Gotta wonder about people.
As for me, my wife is tickled pink about it. She will be waiting with baited breath!

I agree with you, but I am also waiting patiently because until I hear people saying that they are receiving the update, I will only believe it when I see it.

I think it's coming but may be a little longer. In my opinion Samsung had to many complaints and threw it out there so now it is in Verizon's hands so there is no more fingerpointing if it is delayed or not released at all.

I'm not going to be very well-liked after this post, but it needs to be said.
To all those who gang up to spew vitriol and anger at us few who claim an official Froyo release is NOT, in fact, imminent: many of you are making a series of logical errors and unwarranted assumptions. While I'd very much like to be as positive and upbeat about Froyo as the rest of you, I can't, and I've got nearly 9 months of history to point to as the reason for my position.
I remind you that today, 18 April 2011, there is NO more substantive information available concerning a Froyo update for the Fascinate than there was on 18 September 2010, despite explicit promises that it'd be released "no later than the end of the year [2010]." Not ONE additional piece of information. Zero. Zilch. Nada. There has been no effort at all on VZW's part to communicate to consumers over the entirety of this timeframe.
Thus, the reason for the consistent optimism isn't new, credible information, since we have no such thing: rather, people simply tend to get optimistic en masse every time there's a new leaked version of Froyo (several of which, I point out, have been for the Mesmerize and not specifically for the Fascinate, but very talented devs have made magic happen...). Looking back to the early 4th quarter of last year, going forward, you can actually watch this process repeat itself: a leak, subsequent optimism and anger at those who don't share in that optimism, eventual disillusionment and a period of calm before the cycle repeats. This has happened many times and it's documented in a half dozen forums for all to see.
For any number of reasons, whether all the bad PR thanks to Froyogate, et al, or something other reason, now Samsung has decided to post long-awaited source code, and we see the cycle repeating itself. People are haughtily saying "uhhh, heh, if you knew -anything- about the way this market works, you'd know that source code is -always- posted just before an OTA release, heh," as though there's all the reason in the world to be optimistic despite no new credible information at all from VZW.
Correlation is not causation, folks. We don't know why Samsung decided to post the source code prior to any new announcement from Verizon: for all we know, it may have only been a defensive measure so that angry Fascinate owners can direct their outrage toward VZW, where it apparently belongs. Likewise, we have no credible information about what precisely is holding up Verizon -- we've heard rumors of a contract with Microsoft regarding Bing, but frankly, none of us knows for sure. There is no indication at all that Samsung's providing this code means VZW will soon be pushing an official update: that's called an unwarranted assumption.
Worse, many of you, betraying your never having taken a course in logic in your lives, are quick to say "well, you can't prove it's NOT coming out any more than we can prove it is!" as though that somehow justifies an optimistic position. To those who've used this line, I politely remind you that the burden of proof lies with those making a claim. You claim that a Froyo release is imminent. We make no claim at all: We simply point to the fact that the evidence is [totally] lacking. You can't prove a negative, and to make the suggestion that a person can or should prove a negative is a logical fallacy. The moment we see evidence from VZW that a Froyo release is imminent, we will be overwhelmingly happy to join you in celebration. Until that time, we'll continue to be highly skeptical of -any- suggestion that 2.2 is "just around the corner."
I truly hope an update is eventually released. I really do. But I can't think of anything more sad than, should another 6 months pass, browsing these and other forums only to see precisely the same kind of blind optimism and disdain for those who point out the facts. Think about that.
Best,
T

Welll. I still like you Tarrent.
Granted I have an optimistic outlook, If you knew me in RL you would see the same outlook in my everyday endeavors, it's my nature, despite a few non-optimism inducing events over the years.
As far as Samsung releasing the source code, there does seem to be a correlation between code release and phone updates, sometimes it isn't immediate. I am hoping the OTA release is sooner rather than later or not at all. True, I don't know but that's the way I roll. I have made some frustrated posts here but throughout it all I was hoping for the update...there is that annoying optimism again.

I'm pretty sure that logic would indicate that it doesn't justify a pessimistic position either. We don't know...either position is as justified or not as the other in the absence of evidence... but the fact that all other GS phones have been updated and Verizon has said the Fascinate will be too sort of throws the weight of logic toward the possibility there will be an update.

Point taken, Don. To some degree, it all boils down to a matter of attitude.
To be clear, my intent isn't to attack those who're adamant that the release is on the way. But... after lurking here and elsewhere, I get the impression that not everybody reflexively shares that sentiment for those of us who feel it ain't coming. This isn't Disneyland, and there's no reason why we all need to join hands and share in the happy optimism that some old cynics like myself feel is unwarranted. Differences in opinions and healthy debates are things to be celebrated. Here's to hoping my first post doesn't end up in banishment.
