It's Tuesday, 11 June 2013, and rumors continue about the much anticipated release of Google Jelly Bean 4.3 (or some variant of it). Though it didn't happen yesterday the 10th as some had expected--others now say July, an article by Robert Triggs just a few hours ago on Android Authority begs the question "Galaxy Nexus passes through Bluetooth SIG, is Android 4.3 incoming?" Apparently, a GT-I9250 (aka "Maguro": GSM/HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus variant on AT&T/T-Mobile networks) was spied being tested against Bluetooth standards, a requirement for new update releases. That, my friends, is a major step toward our beloved GNexes getting another transfusion that's slated to resolve the over-discussed problems of overheating and rapidly draining batteries. Plus, gaining a couple of new features: a new camera UI and a power-saving Bluetooth upgrade to v4.0 that most higher end devices have. To read Robert Triggs' complete article, go to " http://m.androidauthority.com/galaxy-nexus-passes-bluetooth-android-4-3-224336/ " . I'm so (steam)punked, I check my phone's System Updates in Settings every hour or so.

My leaving journey so far,
1. Suspend Verizon service (waiting to receive Nexus 5) - status pending
2. Purchase tmobile sim card (done) - mistake, bought sim card before I really checked coverage - Tmobile horrible in my area. I was just so upset with Verizon, I bought the "free" tmobile simcard
3. Purchase Nexus 5 (done) - shipping date is November 8
4. Test AT&T pre-paid (I hear AiO throttle badly)
5. Decide Nexus 5 & Pre-paid or
6. Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Developers Edition
As soon as I receive the phone around November 12th, it is off to the AT&T to obtain the sim card and test the service in my area.

Based on my research I've read that StraightTalk has very suspicious throttling terms. I also read that AIO is very good about their terms. If you pay for 2GB a month, you will receive 2GB of unthrottled data. You have the option to purchase more data if you exceed your monthly allowance. You are paying $55 for 2GB of data so it's not exactly a pittance, but I don't suppose you expected to get good data service at the rates T-Mobile and other low end carriers charge

clawer87,
I am sorry to hear that you have not had the best experience with us as of lately. We certainly don't want to see you go. We understand that having a consistent serviceable device is important and we want to make sure you get that. Are you currently eligible for an upgrade? You can check with #UPG. Our service is second to none with 4g LTE. Do you use wi-fi a lot? That can definitely supplement higher data usage. Please let us know what we can do to help because we want you to stay with Team VZW.
Thank you,
TonyG_VZW

Already have 4.4 on the nexus, with no support from Verizon. It's already a
great experience. This is pretty sad.

Just canceled my wife's line. I'll be canceling mine once I have a new phone. Verizon, I hope you enjoyed having me as a customer for the last 10 years. You'll never have me or my family as one again.

thanks so much GameDiversity for the link about prepaid. I'll be dropping Verizon in December after 8 years.
Verizon will probably never allow unlocked phones on their network, unless the FCC (never) forces openness. (But the leaders at FCC are old industry employees placed there to support the corps., so change won't happen.)
Vzw: at $60 for 2gb data + $40 "line charge" to actually use a phone with it = $100 + all the taxes = $125/month. $25 just in taxes. On prepaid there are no taxes (FCC loses out) and no "line charges" (Vzw loses), so it's just $60. That's more than double with money to the Vzw shareholders and government. It's HALF on prepaid! I see why Vzw CEO & shareholders don't want unlocked phones near them? (over 8 years, that's $6240 more, btw.)
But the free market exists (a little bit). We consumers can openly discuss choice, service, etc. here and corporations can decide based on our feedback. Thank you Vzw for encouraging our open discussion of the market on this forum! We're not in China, yet. So, I'll give another provider a try. Test if the service and coverage is worth double the cost. it may be and that's why Vzw has the money to build out a strong 4g net.

Great comment ... and reasonable course of action ... exactly where I am ... see if the grass is greener on the other side, and whether Verizon's network is worth the cost and lockdown.

The Nexus 7 LTE is activated on all networks except Verizon's. They claim there are 'unresolved' system issues and must go through another 4-6 week 'certification' process. Oh and by the way they released a statement blaming Google. Guys, unless Verizon is literally the only carrier in your area with coverage, which is only true for a small minority, I have to implore you to think long and hard about Verizon's track record with Android. They stymy their customers with their actions and charge you at premium while doing so.
Vodafone was right to sell Verizon when it did.

Researching prepaid to really understand, I realize one could save as much as $1000/yr owning their own phone. I'm at $125/month, and that's $10 less than if I was a new customer. When one is a good money manager, they can pay StraightTalk $500 up front for a year an also get unlimited + 2gb. That's $1000/yr.
I appreciate why Vzw wants only what they sell, and completely locked phones. Up to $1000/yr/customer make Wall Street very happy, and also creates money to keep building a the strongest network. Unfortunately, it's not work paying over double every month anymore.
If Vzw allows unlocked Nexus on their network, supporting prepaid for people that want to pay up front, not subsidize, then I'll be back because the network is so strong.

I think VZW has had it's day... like the dinosaur that it is. ATT is starting to eat into them even though their service is just as abominable. At least you can get a REAL NEXUS and use it on their system... so none of these ridiculous shenanigans, bait and switch ploys (as in: riddle me this, batman... when is a nexus phone NOT a nexus phone...bwa ha ha ha ha). I think people have had enough... with every report on how all over the world people get two to four times the speed/coverage at half the price or in some cases, even less!!!
VZW: You CAN'T treat an open platform like a closed proprietary system forever. It's not sustainable... people will find a way...

AntonioC,
Read the 300+ post before this to understand what the issues are. I have posted them as well as nearly every other person on here. Stop trolling and claiming you value your customers! Nexus owners may be a small group but we know how ours phones work. My wife and I have been being using (being used by) your service for over 10 years. That will be changing soon.

I'm sorry you feel this way lowenuf. I can understand your concern for having your phones updated with the latest software. We do care about our customers and want you to have the best working phone. We do a lot of testing before a software is released. We are unable to provide any information about new software until we receive it from the manufacture. We are only able to trouble-shoot any issues your phone may be having with current software so that we can send it to our developers who also talk with our manufactures about specific issues so that we can discuss an update to fix those issues. We have options that are specific to your account and would be more than happy to review your issue, attempt to fix it, and offer options based on your needs and what we have reported. I hope this information is helpful. Continue to review our news page for updates about new products and services http://bit.ly/n5snpq .

You already said this, and the software has already been released to you
and every other carrier. So stop lying.

Just like djortiz said, that is simply a lie. You received the update months ago. Why won't you just confirm that you received the update and say your developers are working on it? Why won't you give us an update on the status instead of constantly saying to check some stupid page which won't get updated until the new software is actually rolling out?
Why won't you tell your customers what the status is.....you haven't even confirmed that you are working on the 4.3 update even though every other carrier has already released it....including Sprint which runs the exact same technology on their network as you do, just over a different frequency.
