It's Tuesday, 11 June 2013, and rumors continue about the much anticipated release of Google Jelly Bean 4.3 (or some variant of it). Though it didn't happen yesterday the 10th as some had expected--others now say July, an article by Robert Triggs just a few hours ago on Android Authority begs the question "Galaxy Nexus passes through Bluetooth SIG, is Android 4.3 incoming?" Apparently, a GT-I9250 (aka "Maguro": GSM/HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus variant on AT&T/T-Mobile networks) was spied being tested against Bluetooth standards, a requirement for new update releases. That, my friends, is a major step toward our beloved GNexes getting another transfusion that's slated to resolve the over-discussed problems of overheating and rapidly draining batteries. Plus, gaining a couple of new features: a new camera UI and a power-saving Bluetooth upgrade to v4.0 that most higher end devices have. thanks for the info. Would love to try out the Nexus5, but I just can't do the $400 for a phone right now. It's likely I just try and flash my GNex to pageplus, although I do have concerns about losing the warranty coverage on the phone. As I mentioned this is my fifth GNex, only one broke due to my own fault, the rest just got buggy or stopped charging after a while. But I really don't want to go with a phone that has a "skin" over Android as I love the Nexus experience, and iPhone..nah. I did like the iOS7 update to the various iPhones friends & family own, so I can imagine it's pretty slick on the iPhone5S...but I will stop there as that is heresy in a Nexus forum
Other option is to stay with Verizon and get, say, the LG G2 on contract (where are the Android standard buttons - are they soft buttons like on Nexus devices? I know there are buttons in the rear; not a fan of that) and root it...

@mbe3204m Verizon is shipping 4.4 to their MotoX phones starting today
which has minimal skinning & is made in Texas if I remember right
But, I would want to know up front how long they tend to maintain the phone
before I buy that mid range phone.
How I can't wait for VoLTE to become an industry standard allowing better
selections of phones to hit every carrier.

great point Pyro. It is not worth $700 extra/year for service, to be honest...but I am curious about what VoLTE Nexus devices will look like/be like and how VoLTE will change the landscape late next year / early 2015. But that's the beauty of going to a PagePlus.. no contract and the phones work with Verizon's network, so if I really want to go back to Verizon for the network, I can.
I share the same concerns on the MotoX or *any* device where we rely on Big Red to provide software updates!

Hate to say it but VoLTE, especially on Verizon, is not coming for a LONG time. Especially if you consider LTE only phones with no CDMA backup. Even though the Verizon Moto X beat the Nexus 4 to an update I can't imagine it will beat it again next year. Let's hope I'm wrong on both fronts

At this point from what I hear with the VoLTE testing is due to
incompatibilities between radios "That may never get resolved" the phones
are unable to failback from VoLTE to CDMA, so if you go out of LTE & into
CDMA you'll lose your call & have to re-dial the other end. So the
usefulness of it may be limited for some until the network is fully
upgraded to support VoLTE.

Well, now that A) the reality has sunk in that the Galaxy Nexus will not get a 4.4 update (or a 4.3 update ... I have given up hope) and B) Straight Talk with the Nexus 5 working out just fine .... I have suspended my Verizon service ...
One thing about the change .... I can decide again, who to give my new number ... if I still like Straight Talk over the next 90 days, I will then cancel my Verizon service ...
One immediate plus, my phone bill is immediately $60 lighter and I am not on a contract ....

glad to hear it GameDiversity. I am looking at PagePlus because their vendors will help you flash a Verizon 4G phone to work on their network (I'd just lose 4G service, but turning off the 4G antenna will help me save battery life anyway, and I'm almost always on wifi), and my wife's iPhone4 will work just fine on PagePlus. If anyone has any good/bad stories about PagePlus please share.
The only thing keeping me from doing it right now is that you can't insure a phone on PagePlus (much less a used one you carry over from another provider). So if I need to replace my Nexus, I'd be stuck having to find a used phone somewhere (as I'm not going to pay full retail price for any phone). My Nexus hasn't been the most reliable device; I'm on my fifth one. After I had the first one replaced, the last four have been "refurbished", and were buggy. The current one I'm using has been reliable enough, but I still worry that it'll be on the fritz shortly after I flash over to PagePlus to save money, only to have to replace the phone myself with whatever is available on Craigslist. Tough call, honestly...I want to save $60/mo too and $720/year off my current bill, but that carries the risk that I'll spend some of that money on a phone. Nexus5 will not work on PagePlus so I don't want to keep jumping to other providers.
Also, how does one keep one's number if one is to cancel current service? If I say "I want to take my number with me to another provider" does Verizon give you any grief over it? How does that even work? My first & only cell number was with Verizon back in 2000, so this is all new territory for me.

To take your number to another provider, you go to that other provider, and ask to PORT your number from Verizon. DO NOT cancel service from Verizon, as that will cancel your number! Start service with the new provider, PORT your number, and the port process will result in your account at Verizon being cancelled.
If you have time left on your contract, there will be an ETF for the Verizon line; you'll receive a final bill for the final month of service on Verizon. It may take a few days for the port to be fully functional, calls and texts may be glitchy for a few days.

A reminder that Verizon seems to have an 18-month support policy and a 2-year contract, so support of hardware upgrades ends before you can update.
Galaxy Nexus software on Verizon will probably NEVER be updated, based on every other phone they have sold. My contract is up and I'm leaving in a couple days. I went to verizon 2 years ago because of LTE and the network in Los Angeles is so crowded, 4G is about 1mbps download now. bye bye.

Hilarious, I had my second insurance replacement sent to me in 9 months, and they canceled my policy. $10/month plus $99 per incident, and you don't think they are making enough money off of my business to keep my phone insured? This is aside from the fact that I had five junk replacements sent to me in a row last spring; maybe I should bill Asurion for my time wasted & inconvenience since they sent me their crap inventory 5 times in a row before I finally got a working phone? I actually had to insist with Verizon that they replace with their inventory.
That was the nail in the coffin. Moving to PagePlus and giving up 4G. At least I know I can probably get a used GNex for around $100-$150 online in good shape and not have to pay the silly insurance AND I'll save $70/month off my current bill between both lines.

That is unacceptable by any measure.
Sadly also I've had a case open for who knows how long to merge my vzw.com account & my community account so I can actually log in here & post without logging out of my vzw.com account & doing a reset password on my community account for it to let me in.
If it weren't for my unlimited data plan that I have I'd be switching to the big blue ball right now, they have better voice quality out in this area & their coverage is about the same everywhere I go.
Also can anyone explain why there's such a pain in the butt to get a NFC Sim for my Galaxy nexus from VZW, or am I just getting the wrong reps whenever I call?

I guess I haven't had any problems with having a separate community account from the MyVerizon account. I usually never stay logged into the MyVerizon account for my line. For logging into the community, I always use the community home page and change the type of login as the community ID.
Since the Isis service is nationwide now, there shouldn't be an issue requesting a NFC SIM card. Have you tried the stores to see if they have them now?

Ann154 sadly my closest Verizon Store is a 45+ minute trip away since they
closed the 2 closest stores but when I'm down that way next I'll see if
they have one.
As for my Verizon community account every time I want to log into it I have
to do a password reset -- and yes I know I'm typing my password right.
Sadly there's something wrong with my account where I can't make any
permanent modifications to it at all, and every time I try to combine both
accounts it errors out with my user/pass in use which is understandable.

Good news! There's no need to head into the store for an ISIS capable SIM, Pyro411. When you log into My Verizon as the Account Owner, select your phone under My Devices and then select Manage My Device. On the right side of the page, you'll see "Get NFC Secure Element SIM" to order the SIM and have it mailed straight to you. I've also brought your trouble with signing into our community forums to my manager's attention. We'll reach out to you shortly to get that taken care of once and for all.

Sadly the link you mentioned does not exist when I select my phone & ISIS
shows as it's incompatible on the Galaxy Nexus in the Google Play store.
I do know however that the GNEX does in fact have NFC & NFC Secure Element
so I wanted to replace my SIM both so my phone has it & it's out of the way
for when I do buy a new phone eventually.
Also when it comes to my 2 accounts, both use the same email & since you're
an admin you should be able to see it if they need a point of reference to
merge my 2 accounts.
