Google voice assistant not working after new update

After the new forced Verizon android security update, Google voice assistant no longer works properly ("sorry I didn't understand"). I have updated all apps, reset cache on all apps and made sure all language settings are set to english. Still won't work.

Serei, We want to make sure you're able to get your Google voice assistant working properly. What model Samsung device do you have? Have you tried retraining or deleting your current voice profile from the Google app? You would need to open the Google app, select the hamburger icon, click on Voice or Voice assistant. Hello. We're sorry that you're having issues with Google Voice after the update. Did you try the steps my colleague mentioned? Have you tried power cycling the phone?
