How can I block my phone from auto updating 2.2?

I'm avoiding downloading 2.2 because it killed my wife's battery but while on my computer my phone started to auto download it and I didn't even touch it.

Is there a way in the settings for me to prevent this crappy update from autodownloading?

It gets pushed OTA, there is nothing you can do apart from keeping airplane mode on.

Really the update is a godsend, it pretty much changes the entire device into a better working device. The battery drain seems to be correlation not causation

Are confusing an actual download with a notification? Even if you are correct and it actually downloaded the update witthout you pressing the OK button, you still have to authorize the install and you have the option not to, unless you have a phone that is being remotely controlled by Verizon...you cannot be forced to update.

I updated both my phone and my wife's and no regrets, the battery problem is real but not every person has the extreme problem some are experiencing.

Thank you community members for your responses. The software update will not be auto downloaded. You will be given the option to complete by selecting "OK". If you decide not to,  the update will not take place.
