My phone will not allow me to delete an individual contact. When I try to delete a contact, a prompt comes up that reads, "The contact can not be deleted but only hidden" I found the below on line but I still don't understand how delete a contact from my phone list...
Delete a contact
- Open People.
- Touch the contact you want to delete.
- Touch Menu > Delete. If you delete a contact from a Google Account (or another account with editable contacts), the contact is also deleted from Contacts on the web the next time you sync your phone.
You can’t delete contacts from a read-only account, such as a Skype or Twitter account. Instead, a dialog informs you that the contact will be hidden. To restore hidden contacts from a read-only account, you must delete that account from your phone and then add it again.
If the contact contains information from an editable account and from a read-only account, a dialog informs you that the information from the read-only account will be hidden, not deleted.
- Touch OK to confirm that you want to delete the contact.

Where is this contact saved that you can't delete it? Was it saved to one of the "read-only" accounts like Facebook, Twitter, etc.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I'm glad you asked because I'm not sure from where the contacts were uploaded. When I purchased my phone the salesperson set everything up for me. These are the steps I was taking. Maybe they will help you to help me
1. I go to my phone contacts
2. I click on the contact I'd like to delete
3. I click on delete
4. The message comes up that the contact will only be hidden and cannot be deleted.
5. I exit the process since I can't delete the contact.
Any ideas?

When you view a contact, there should be some indication of where it was sourced from.

I never was able to find where the contact originated because after a day I checked my contact list and it was not listed. I think this is because I went into "My Verison" then "My Device" then to "Backup My Contacts" and I deleted the contact from that list and from there synced my phone. I'm not sure if that did the trick but the contact is gone. Thank you for you help!

If that was the case, then your contact was likely saved as a Phone contact that was synced with Backup Assistant.
