How do I delete birthdays that have been sent to my phone by Facebook?

The only way to do that is to turn off Facebook sync.

Select Calendar from your home screen, then select Calendars which is next to Today, a menu will open listing all the info you synced with your calendar.  Deselect the one for Facebook and select done.  It will refresh your calendar and will not show any birthdays through Facebook.  Also make sure that Select All is not checked.
