How do I re-gain access if I get locked out of my device?

I cannot get into the phone, I am using fingerprint for entry and it did not read. I want that removed after I get back in.

I got Samsung in chat and they walked me through a factory reset. I lost all data but needed my phone then. At midnight last night, chat was unavailable from Verizon.

Oh no, let's regain access to your phone and get you back in business! Is the phone not recognizing your touch? Have you tried to do a soft reset and retested?

I was beside myself and yes Samsung got me up and running but can you imagine doing that hard reset in a chat? It was not fun.
