I really feel betrayed by Verizon and this phone

Not even sure where to start this nightmare, but I can see that I am not the only one. I am on my second SIM Card and 2nd Nexus and the problems are not better. I can't make or receive calls consistently with this phone. Does not matter where I am or if I am driving or sitting stil. Once a call connects, either outgoing or incomming, the bars all turn grey and its just a matter of minutes and the call drops. This happens on almost EVERY call. While I thought Verizon was being helpful, now I find out they were just being deceitful. Acted as if this was not some ongoing issue, but I see several posts from acorss the country with the same problem, same fixes that don't work and the recommendation to hit ### send after each dropped call. I can find posts as far back as mid-December. This phone is great in so many ways, but honestly my overall opinion at this point is that is totally sucks the big one. Now I am stuck with a phone that can't consististenly be used as a phone. Verizon has not yet offered me a different phone, but WTF, I have bought covers (2), I paid 300 dollars to have ice cream sandwich and I am going to end up with a 300 dollar phone that is basically the same as my Droid X that I replaced with the Nexus. Should have just kept the Droid X and not upgraded to this stupid phone. Galaxy Nexus you suck and so does Samsung and Google as well. Verizon is also on my poop list at this point. After almost 20 years as a customer you try to teat me like an idiot instead of acknowledging the problem.

Never buy a phone when it first comes out for this very reason. Having the latest and greatest has risk to it, because you become the guinea pig. It is impossible for Verizon to fully test a phone in 'real world' settings because there's no way to test the equivalent of all the people that end up buying the phone. Some issues are only discovered after release. Always wait a month or so after release date.

Both versions of mine work great. This is why I say its corrupted cache. To go through two phones with the same problem... The only constant will always be apps, network, and user.

Can you explain the corrupted Cache thing a little more? I am on my second phone and have had two SIM cards. The phone had problems from day one before any apps had been installed on it. Can the corrupted cache travel to another phone on the SIM card? Not trying to be a smart a**. I really want to understand how the corrupted cache occurs and if there is a fix.

@Tidbits - it's not the corrupted cache. Like Kelly, I went through 2 sims cards and 2 brand new phones, still experienced the same issues as hers. It's the phone. Verizon and Samsung dropped the ball on this one. This problem has made the phone from great to worst.

So by turning off the Google back-ups, my reception will improve? I'm not trying to challenge u but seems like you know what you are talking about so any helps would be appreciated. I want to love this phone but it's so annoying when you can't even keep it connected. Thanks Tidbits.

- It may or it may not. Corrupted or incompatible cache gets reloaded if it is saved by Google backup. The Galaxy Nexus is the newest OS and you probably have old stuff that you don't use anymore that is cached and ia not compatible with ICS. Everytime there is a new OS update or upgrade I honestly do a full wipe, delete my Google backup, start over. The only real major problem I had was the Droid 3. Blue pictures(software issue with white balancing), and my backlit went out which was replaced. My Nexus has some minor bugs, which were fixed with the 4.0.4 leak. It still can be a network issue more than a phone issue. If it was really a phone issue than a lot more people will have this problem.
All I can say is try it. You have nothing to lose at this point.

I would also like to know if this has solved anyone's problem. I have a friend whose connection keeps dropping, he seems fine if he stays on CDMA but if he tries to connect to LTE the whole connection goes to crap. Verizon says it's something wrong at the account level and a software update should fix it in the future, but he's been waiting over a month. This seems like a logical step to try.

1st of all, this phone did not just come out, it came out in several places and several months before it was released in the US and there were few bugs reported. This bug was not one ever mentioned until after the Verizon release. Second, don't blame the consumer for a poorly made and released product. This type of attitude is exacly why companies think this types of problems and slow fix times are acceptable. I am sorry, but I am setting the bar just a litle higher. Also, I bought my Blackberry Tour and Droid X the day they dropped and did not have any problems with either of them so this does not have to be a constant issue when things are doen properly in the first place.

Did I say it was you? No... I said it's corrupted cache... More than likely you keep reinstalling the bad cache using Google Backup.
The device was out less than 3 weeks to 1 month before release... It wasn't out months before it was released here.
Do you want to try and fix the problem or is it just one of those I need to vent?

As soon as you log into Google services you automatically load your backup. You have to turn it off BEFORE logging into Google. It's a problem here and there with people and they always assume when they go through multiple devices that it's always the phone. When I get a new phone with an OS higher than what I had previously I always turn it off for 2 reasons.
1. Some apps have not been updated to reflect changes with the OS. Installing these apps may have an adverse effect. Their cache could do the same.
2. Cache may be corrupted or certain settings may cause conflicts which show up as "bugs" or things not working right.

So if I factory reset again and turn off the auto downloads it may fix my problem? Or do I need to start all over with a new SIM card?

Doesn't hurt to try.
hit settings --> backup & reset --> backup my data(turn on) --> Automatic restore(turn off) -- backup my data(turn off)
You can leave on backup so if this fails you will have a backup and your backup should be safe.
factory reset.
Skip the Google log in.
hit settings --> backup & reset --> backup my data(turn on) --> Automatic restore(turn off) -- backup my data(turn off)
log into Google and allow syncing
You will not need a new sim card. This is to ensure you backup isn't causing the problem. If two devices, new sim card, and the backup checked and you still have a problem it's more than likely a network problem, or a bad install of 4.0.2 software.
There's one method to check, for a bad 4.0.2 install but I won't explain this one as it's a little more advanced for most users, and requires working with Fastboot flashing. This is something Google/Samsung has to do as Verizon tech reps or techs would NOT be allowed to do. If they tech does this then he is liable on his own discord.

Awesome, thanks. The Verizon guy did mention a network problem as a possibility, but I wondered if then more people in my area with this phone wouldn't be having the same problem as me. He also mention rebuilding my line.....whatever that means...Thanks again.

I don't know how much there is to support this "bad cache" (Links?) problem. I had some pretty bad issues with signal on my GNEX before I finally gave up and I never restored anything directly from Google. As a matter of fact initially I was only running ROMS (after unlocking the phone of course) that did not load with Google Apps so I was never even prompted to enter a password. I believe I had a bad phone, I also believe there was a batch of bad phones shipped for as many people as I see complaining about them.
You can also say of course people will complain but on a lot of message boards for a device people will go out of their way to defend a device and bash those that complain about it. Plain and simple compared to my other 4 smart phones (one other LTE) it was unacceptable for any price. Of course this is my experience and your travels will vary.
Loved everything about the phone except battery and signal.
