Hi ddunker, I know you are anticipating Jellybean!  Although we don't have a date for it yet, you can visit our News Center at news.vzw.com for the latest updates and announcements.

Why is it so difficult to estimate a release date?  You need so many days to tweak it, so many days to test it, so many days to tweak it again, etc. etc....

Apple started this secrecy crap and everyone thinks it is cool and it is the right thing to do.  Why Verizon got a Nexus device is beyond me.  Verizon, certainly, is not capable of getting updates out quickly.  Nexus means update comes from Google, we all get it.  Why is Verizon so much worse than AT&T at releasing updates?  I know, it is a secret.

Take matters into your own hands if you can.

I have been running jellybean for at least 1 month.

No, but if you take matters into your own hands, you won't need or want it.

True that could be done, but why should I have to void my warranty just because Verizon excels at drawing large volumes of air towards a low pressure center?

True, but this is 2012 and any good company can consider all the variables and issue a release date.  They can even be conservative and then toot their own horn when it comes out early.  That is what the airlines do to better their on time stats.

It's not in Verizon's control. If you know how CDMA works, and is coded there are 3 entities involved.  With GSM there is only 1.  CDMA needs signatures from Qualcomm, Google/Samsung(More than likely Samsung), and Verizon.  This takes times as 3 have to agree that it is working properly.  GSM works differently and only needs one signature.  If you noticed...  Only GSM versions, and wifi versions of newer devices has gotten the update.  CDMA version around the world have not gotten their update yet.  LTE is also new tech which may have it own set of issues that needs to be fixed.  HSPA+ has been around a lot longer(In Europe/Asia since the late 90's I believe) than LTE(started to roll out worldwide in various places).

If you want to see how complicated it can get.  Here is JBQ(lead android developer) on Software Engineering Schedule

You are not always going to meet your deadlines.  Setting up a deadline and publicizing it is a lawsuit waiting to happen by the general public.  Samsung, AT&T, and a few other companies got burnt in recent past for it.

Tidbits;

you sound quite knowledgeable about this issue. Thank you. I had previously read JBQ's article as well and understand that it takes a collaboration to get the job done.

Basically, you are telling us to go with AT&T if we want timely updates since Verizon/Samsung/Google/Qualcomm are unable to get the updates out quickly for their own valid/invalid reasons.

The only question I have left is why then there are no such delays for the AT&T/Samsung/Google/GSM group?

GSM code for the most part is open source.  There is only one signature, and it only needs the person who develops the phones signature.  They do not need any carriers, or manufacturers signature.

With CDMA there is always a carrier, and manufacturer approval process as they have to sign off on it.  When Google said it would be treated like their other Nexus devices I knew it was a load of bull(coming for Symbian days, and other open source projects).

Keep in mind when VoLTE happens the process gets a lot quicker, but the question remains if there can be one unified radio that meets all the spectrums without causing interference(which is currently being worked on).

LTE is a GOOD thing in the long run.  If the above radio happens.  Manufacturers can make one device that works on all carriers.  update happens when manufacturers want the update. You can chose your carrier and device without signing a 2 year agreement and it'll work.  This will drive productions costs down.

Got this from verizon....its Samsungs fault?:

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding our software upgrade options.  I'm Deb, and I anxiously waiting for the Jelly Bean for my mom's Nexus as well.  I wish I could give you the exact date or an estimated time frame for the update.

After thoroughly reviewing my resources, we're still waiting for the software from Samsung.  Once it arrives we test it and push it out to you over the air.  I apologize for any inconvenience you've incurred.  Please know that we're working diligently with Samsung to get this software to you.  For additional information please feel to contact Samsung at 888-987-4357.  As soon as we're done testing the software you're able to view the software launch announcement at visit news.verizonwireless.com.

CDMA radios and LTE radios are all done by Samsung. CDMA radio requires 3 signatures while the LTE version requires 1. Currently I am running the leaked radios and there are some improvements, but I do have one bug that annoys me. Previous radio would lock on quicker and change quicker. With the leaked version it takes a whole lot longer, but I do see an increase of upload and download speeds.

So far it still looks like the radios are in the testing phase.

I guess the better question is the hold up really VZW apps being certified for Jelly Bean? If that is the case I would be far more annoyed at that being the cause of the delay instead of actual testing and certification of the core OS. Really the world can do with out "My Verizon for Galaxy Nexus" if that is the only thing holding up the show. Google has already posted the release to AOSP, so as they say the release is "golden". Its just a matter of the final approvals being done to release it to the world.

That's not the only thing that is holding it up.  If you ever install the leak the MyVerizon app and the backup assistant app are already in there and working.

The problem is the radio.  It works for some and it breaks for others.  I used to have 100% uptime, and though it shows 100% uptime everything hangs here and there and I have to restart to get it going.  I downgraded the radio to get everything back to normal.

The lack of information is the reason this phone will be my last and all the other phones on my plan I am phasing out as their contract date is up.  Biggest network or not, treating customers like this is unacceptable and the only way to impact culture change is one phone changing carriers at a time.  I am done paying more money for less and less service.

Adding to this comment, the issue of CDMA vs. GSM and HPSA+ related sign-off is a diversion since the official JB software code has been finalized and is available for use as long as you're willing to violate your terms of service. I will be mailing a box of unpleasant contents to Verizon's mobile headquarters in the near future. I was deceived when I thought I was buying my first nexus device, and I am disappointed in the lack of service and communication from my carrier. I will also be voicing my displeasure in the form of changing carriers when my current contract expires, a decision made even easier by the expiration of my unlimited data plan at that time.
