Jelly Bean Battery Drain Caused by Offline Music in Google Play Music

I have the Samsung Galaxy S3 and upgraded to Jelly Bean (JRO03L.I535VRBLK3) on 12/14. I immediately experienced terrible battery life with media server being the second highest after the screen in battery consumption. I read a factory reset solved the problem for some, but it didn’t for me, and eventually, I think I found the source of the problem. Google Play Music and Media Server.

I was able to fix the problem by clearing all data (includes any offline music) and then uninstalling all updates to Google Play Music (v4.4.811H is the update I got rid of, I am now on v4.4.615.481147 which came with the JB update).

While on v4.4.811H, music would pause itself, no sound from headphone although visually everything is still playing, and would just stop responding all together. Once those things happened the phone must think it is still processing sound since the volume key continues to control the media volume and not the ring tone volume. The only way to get it back to normal would be a restart of the phone.

I'm not sure if this is a Jelly Bean issue or Google Play Music issue, either way, Verizon should look into it.

I have the same exact issue.  I thought my battery life was a little worse after upgrading to Jelly Bean.  Also, there have been multiple instances where Google Music has stopped playing my music after about 2-3 songs and when I try to skip to the next song, play, stop anything inside Google Music, it will not play any more songs.  I have to go to the Task Manager and kill Google Music.  Once I restart it, it seems to be fine for a while.  It seems to play songs that I have on my local device (downloaded from Google Music) just fine, but only time will tell.  This needs to be looked into right away; this is not acceptable.

I have had the same problem with Google Play. Force stopping it and restarting the app seems to take care of it. My battery life has been down to but I can't identify the issue, nothing looks unusual.
