Lock Screen

Hello All

I just purchased the new Galaxy S4 and I love the device!  However, I seem to have run in to an issue that is consistent among the Verizon Galaxy S4's and not an issue on the AT&T S4's.  Let me start by giving a little bit of background.  At my company, we are required to encrypt our devices in order to receive company email on them.  I have a high security password set in order to use encryption.  My screen lock time out is set to 10 minutes.  The issue is that the device will not give me the option to "swipe to unlock".  My screen times out after 30 seconds but the lock does not enable until 10 minutes.  When I press the home button or the power button within 10 minutes from my last activity, I am taken directly to my home screen, no swipe.  When my co-workers do that on an AT&T phone, they get the lock screen and can swipe to unlock.  This leaves me vulnerable to sending "butt dials" and "butt texts".  I could set the "Lock instantly with power key" option but I do not want to enter the password every single time I take it out of my pocket.  Has anyone else seen this issue or have any suggestions for a fix?

Thanks

If you want the phone to lock after the 30 seconds, you will have to go back into the Settings, choose the My device tab, and then touch Lock screen.  There is a setting there called Lock automatically.  Touch it and change to Immediately.  This will cause you phone to lock after the screen blanks out.

This causes the phone to immediately require a password.  On the AT&T version, It will allow you to swipe to unlock until the "Lock Automatically" time has been met.

I know what you are talking about now.  I had the S3 prior to getting the S4 and I remember that being a feature being available on the S3.  For some odd reason it does not seem to be available on the S4.

You can try a third party app like Widget Locker from the Play Store. This will allow the swipe prior to the pass code screen.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Thanks Ann, I am finding out that as far as the S4 goes each cell phone company decided what apps and features that they want on the phone before it is given to the public.  Verizon seems to have removed a lot of the apps and features that are in the T-Mobile and AT&T versions (not sure about Sprint).  I still love my Galaxy S4.

Ryanjk66, congratulations on your upgrade to a fabulous Samsung Galaxy S4. We definately want you to have the peace of mind that you deserve on your device. However, I apologize that our friends at Samsung designed that device to default to lock mode as commanded by you, which is after 10 minutes. The lock mode can only be adjusted in the security options located in Settings by adjusting the 10 minutes. Click http://bit.ly/y5iuoj for addtional device support.
