I can only send or recieve mms messages if I have my mobile data turned on. It will not work if my secure wifi is on. Anyone know how to fix this?

Your phone is working as designed.  You cannot send/receive picture texts over wi-fi; they require a cellular connection.

Just so i'm clear. You own the S3? Is that right? I own the droid inc 4g, and just for the heck of it i made sure that wifi and mobile/cellular network was off before posting this. I then went to send a text "Just dropped in to say hello". And instead of sending that text to one person. I chose more than one. Unfortunately i can only do ten at a time. My message/text went thru.

A plain SMS basic text message doesn't need the cellular data turned on to send as it goes over the voice network. It is the MMS (picture messages) that needs the cellular data connection to transfer the attachments.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I haven't tried that one. I'll be right back.

Not bad. I just sent 2 pics (w/o text), and both wifi and mobile/cellular network were off. And to think, i didn't even think of getting a phone that does that when i bought my phone.

Hello Unionman692, I have great news for you.  Your device is working as expected as previous members have stated above.  Your device does need a data connection to the Verizon Wireless network in order to send and receive messages.  The device does allow you to connect to WIFI, but only to browse websites, up date apps and connect to social media sites.

WarrenM, I realized that data connection requirement the hard way, but to expand on that, shouldn't the app know how to find the data connection even with wifi turned on? When I try to send a picture (or a group message that gets converted to MMS), I see the 4G icon pop up on top, but it won't actually send successfully until I turn off wifi. That has got to be corrected. It should find the data connection and complete the transmission regardless of the wifi state.

Sometimes when I send an MMS, with WiFi on...I will get a pop up that says MMS will be sent when Mobile data is on, then however, sometimes with WiFi on, I see the 4G icon appear along with WiFi and the MMS sends and or downloads if I recieve one.  It's hit or miss, not consistent. Odd

It definitely should do what you think it should. If your mobile data connection is enabled then it shouldn't matter whether wifi is connected or not, it should be able to send MMS regardless. I'm not sure why yours isn't able to. I had the same issue with my Droid Charge.
