New security app detected attack. How do I get more details?

thezoetrope

I recently got the new Verizon security and privacy app on my phone and yesterday it notified me that it detected an attack on my home network. I can't figure out how to get more details. There are a number of questions I have surrounding this. What exactly does it mean? How do i get more information? How do I know that I have successfully remedied the problem? How concerned should I be? I've changed my router admin password, run a virus scan, changed my wifi password, disabled uPNP, just about anything I could think of or dig up on the internet. Still the lack of info from V S&P leaves me with concerns. Information surrounding the app itself seems almost non-existent, Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello thezoetrope,

I'm sorry for any and all concerns you're having surrounding the Verizon Security and Privacy application on your device. I'm eager to assist you. First, I'd like to gather some details. Since this application has had a recent update, I would like to ask how long you've had it on your device? Please look up the application in the Play Store and check for any available updates.  Here's a link that will provide you with some more information:  https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/verizon-security-and-privacy-faqs/#phish

Anything new?  Same issue on my Galaxy S7.  Full scan shows 100% clean.

What type of router do you have I have netgear and I can go into the browser and see what is going on in the router. Make sure you have your software up to date and go thru the logs you should be able o tell in there if someone tried to get into your network

I have Optimum internet.  Doesn't matter if I am home or on Optimum wifi hotspots.   Same popup error msg.

Optimum has McAfee not sure if you have to pay extra for it

But one thing I would try is to go into settings-application manager and go down to support and protection tap on storage and clear the data. Then restart the phone and see if you still have the problem. This does not always work but most times it does. Unfortunately this is one of those apps that you can't uninstall and then reinstall

McAfee is free from optimum.  I think thebsecurity scan from Verizon isvalso McAfee?

Anyway,  the "attack"  could also be from Optimum probing the network.

I did the clear cache & data.  I'll see if it still happens.

I think you are correct on both counts

So far,  no issues since clearing cache & data for the app.  Been on multiple Optimum WiFi  hotspots.    Weird - app shouldn't need that to function correctly.

This is rediculous. There seems to be no answer from V because the app detects all activities on your home network device, changes to passwords, assigning static IP addresses, etc. as an attack. I can generate "attacks" just by turning my home wifi device off and on.

Verizon,

What criteria does the app use to determine if there is attack? Please publish that, so at least we can determine wether or not to ignore the app's attack message.

Have you updated the app recently? I know this was a problem a while back. Also did you try clearing the data in the app it self and restarting it? I don't think we will ever know anything about how Verizon apps work or not work on here. They never admit that the apps are defected or that they just plain don't work.

JTMoore, I completely understand how concerning it is when receiving a message on the Verizon Support and Protection app that your Wi-Fi network may be threatened. We certainly want to help with uncovering as much information as we have on how serious a message like this on your Verizon Support and Protection app may be. Thank you for the great questions, kathy65793. Can you also please share the exact message that came up regarding your Wi-Fi network on your Verizon Support and Protection app? Changing your Wi-Fi password and running a virus scan are the best precautions to take when receiving a message regarding your Wi-Fi network on this app.

How about something simple!

"Wi-Fi network scans" Tap on it and get the attack time /DATE and type OF ATTACK and SSID of the network that was connected at that time.

I have "2 attacks detected" displayed and cannot find any further information in the entire app.!

Again, Rediculous! Scare us, then tell us nothing?

I agree that customers should have more information about our protection apps JTMoore. Here is a link with some information on our support and protection  https://vz.to/2eujBHS . I will also pass on your feedback to upper management for enhancements to the application.

I was having the same problem and clearing only seems to fix it for awhile.  And now, after the latest updates, I do not see any way to clear the cache/data for the Security and Privacy app.  Please let me know if I am missing something.

I'm sorry for any inconvenience in clearing the cache for the security and privacy application. I'd love to help. Have you tried these steps to clear the application cache this way?

  1. Navigate to Settings.
  2. Tap on Applications.
  3. Tap on Application Manager and click on All section.
  4. Find the app that is not working properly.
  5. Tap on the app.
  6. Click Clear cache.

Please let us and the community know your results.

That may be how it works on an S5 but I have an S8.  However, I did find where to clear it and will post it here for anyone with an S8. 1. Settings>Apps>All Apps2. Scroll to Security & Privacy3. Click Storage>Clear Cache
