I purchased a Galaxy S4 4 days ago. I use wifi to connect the majority of the time. I was out with my brother and we were comparing his 2 Verizon phones to my GS4. He has a GS3 from work and a IPhone 5 as personal. At the same location and time, both his phones connected to 4g no problem. My GS4 would only connect at 3G.
I have read that turning aiplane mode on and off and turning data off and on will trigger 4g. Well I tried that and would get 4g for a couple of seconds and then back to 3G. update
I've also tried *228 to update cell towers. If I try option 1 I get "unable to complete programming" option 2 for roaming completes though with no change in 4g availability.
Does anyone have this issue too? More importantly, is there a solution?
I have 10 more days to decide to keep the phone or get something else.
Thanks in advance for your help.

You don't update your Preferred Roaming List on a 4G phone by dialing *228. Try turning off your phone, removing your SIM card, waiting a few minutes, then reinserting the SIM card, turning the phone back on, and allowing a few minutes for the phone to establish a fresh network connection. If that doesn't help, you may need a new SIM card; they are free at your local Corporate Verizon store
